i have successfully rounded of my oil drain bolt
i have successfully rounded of my oil drain bolt
i tried it again today and i managed to completly round off the nut-nothing worked, what the hell do i do now- the reason i was changing my oil was because it has flooded so many times that the oil smell completlely like gas, the oil is also thin because of the flooding-should i wait till i get it running then change the oil?
take a big pair of plyers and remove it. Buy a new drain bolt first though. =] If you've managed to round off the bolt, your either using the wrong size wrench or over-tightening it. If you use a new crush gasket, you dont have to tighten the hell out of it.
Yeah, vice grips. It shouldn't be rusted on or anything. Welding the nut on would be good, except you probably don't have a welder.
Last option, go to the hardware store and ask them for ez-outs. You'll need to drill a hole in the bolt, and then screw the ez-out down, which will then start twisting out the old bolt.

you can take a dremel and cut a slot into it, or grind an edge flat so you can grip it better, then yank it out with pliers or vice grips, or use a BIG screwdriver in the little slot you cut and unscrew it

If it's in there really really good, drill a hole in the center of the plug, and use an easy-out. I had to fish a head bolt out of my Metro with that method.

Dude, if you can't find/afford a torch. Try this. Before you tackle that bolt again get the car good and hot. IE Drive it hard. That will help in getting that bolt hot.
dont burn your self.

If all the above does not work, take your Makita grinder to the head of the bolt and grind the head off down to the washer. Then you should be able to take your Dremel tool and grind a slot and use a screwdriver to take it out. After the head is off there should be virtually no torque on the thing, so the screwdriver should do the job easily.

And thats the worst idea I have heard yet..........
Chubbrx, you may need to get a cheap *** propane torch at the hardware store and try to heat the bolt...Wait, STRIKE THAT!! Bad idea due to the gas in the oil.. Hmmm...You need to get your 7 down to Tucson so we can look at it. Sometimes you can hammer a smaller socket on to the head of the bolt and try it that way. But somehow or another, that thing NEEDS to come out. May want to prepare for the eventuallity that the oil pan may have to be removed.

Actually, Griot's Garage sells these siphon oil change pumps that sucks out your eng oil by creating a vacuum inside the oil holding tank (part of the pump). It's supposed to suck up all the fluid in the crankcase. This way, you don't even have to get under the car to change oil bc the oil filter is underhood as well. It's just an alternate solution.
It really sucks when you strip a bolt. Maybe your bolt was rounded before or your socket was the wrong size. Just a word to the wise, when bolts don't turn easily, spray some WD40 or liquid wrench before trying again. Check for tool size, direct that your turning, and never use a open wrench instead of a socket. Replace any bolts at the first sign of wear/rounding.
