i have a question i need a quick answer to:)
what the hell are you unplugging?
I assume you mean you want to get all the wires that go under the UIM off so that you can pull your motor. If that is infact what you are trying to say, then yes, the UIM will have to be removed, and then replaced if you plan on using the stock hanging points for hooking up an engine hoist.

i always do it the way i mentioned previously... it saves you from having to reach under your dash and try to get to the ecu plug while laying on your back with a flashlight in your mouth. But whatever floats your boat.

-Pull up passenger side carpeting (you will need to remove plastic skid plate thing)
-You will see a metal kick plate held on by a few nuts, remove it, ECU is under there
-Follow wiring harness from where it enters the firewall and unplug it (should be 2 or 3 plugs, depending on series.. I think) There are also a few wires held down with nuts around the general vicinity
-Push grommet through, along with the harness itself while someone else pulls it through
-Coil harness on top of motor and pull the motor with everything still connected.
It's much easier to unplug 2 plugs and then pull everything else outside of the car, rather than trying to snake your hands all over the engine bay trying to disconnect everything. Not to mention trying to reconnect every single plug in the engine bay when it goes back in.
