I have play in my differential. Rack and pinion or LSD?
Ok. guys. Today, I had my whole car jacked up at a muffler shop. SO i got a good look.
My e-brake was on, But yet once I grabbed my driveshaft, I could spin it almost a half a turn back and forth.
SO is it my rack and pinion? or my LSD unit?
Symptoms: Horrible shutter and some clunking in the rear end.
P.S. Has brand new polyurethane mounts around the whole car.
2 motor, 2 tranny, 1 diff, 2 subframes.... but yet i feel the rear end wobbling.

That sounds like your problem right there.

Ok. No the rack n pinion. Ring n Pinion-- sorry ,I was high when i first wrote this.
BUT!
Can a really bad worn out LSD give you play in the rear end.
My driveshaft is brand new guys.
I have had this problem for a while and i have put NEW everything that has anything to do with play in the drivetrain.
I have an 88 TII and i drift often and it still has the stock LSD with 180,000+ miles

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
If you're confusing rack and pinion with ring and pinion and you have no idea what backlash is I would suggest selling you bag and using the proceeds to pay someone who knows what they're doing to setup your diff.
PS - Why do all these ******* stupid kids feel the need to share their loser druggie habits with the world?

replacing the lsd casing inside the pumkin won't fix your problem. You'll have to replace the crush ring and set your backlash with some marking paint and a dial indicator. you may or may not have to replace your front and rear pinion bearings since its soo bad you might have beat up the races. For a cheap fix, put in a whole new diff and then buy a kaaz to put in the pumkin.
All of the work should be able to be performed by a competent driveline repair shop/offroad truck shop.

If you are going to have someone put in an LSD they will fix the lash problem when they put things back together the right way.
From reading your posts above don't try to do the diff yourself. Its a little more involved than changing the gas in the car.
If you can't afford the diff right now, have someone check the rear end and fix it.

Setting a diff is going to be a pain in the ***. Granted the only diff I have set was a worn out Hypoid gear and that is going to be than a typical rwd set-up. You have 2 preloads to set and then the pinion depth and the backlash. All 4 of these settings affect others. There are special tools to measure what it is set at and if you do it wrong you are going to end up with a noise diff and a short life. If you are spending the money on a new ring a pinion than get it done properly.
You should be able to track down a link to the Factory Service Manual and find the acceptable backlash on the diff. I suppose there could be additional play if the spider gears and pinions (differential: the part that the Ring bolts onto) . If your limited slip was worn out then the diff would just act more like an open differential. I suppose this is probally all over your head and your budget so just buy another used Differential.
If you do not go around acting stupid and talking about doing drugs than you will gather a little more respect. If you want to control your own future then you will need to learn that it is you that controls the way people treat you. Nobody is a victim more than once.

I simply want to Know the source of the problem n what i need to order so i could "guesstimate" , in total parts/labor.
