I was given a 86 but it does not start
I need some help on getting this car started. The car was given to me by a friend and the car has been sitting in his driveway for less than a year and the first thing I did was get a battery for it and when I went to start it, it sounded like it wanted to start but nothing. I need some info on how to get this car rolling.

#1) Compression check (do a search for the proper way to do it)
#2) Check to see if you are getting fuel
#3) CHeck to see if you are getting spark.
It is possible that it may be flooded also, try removing the EGI fuse (under the hood, on fuse panel on drivers side strut tower) cranking the car for ~15 sec or so, then replace fuse and try to start. If it has been sitting for that long, might be a good idea to drain the gas and get fresh fuel in there, as well as replace the spark plugs, or at the very least remove them, and clean them off.

I tried to push started too but that didn't work either.
The car did not have any gas in it so I will add more gas to it. Do I need to add any to the gas.

did you get any smoke at all? did it kik at all? check plugs to see if there isnt too much crap built up on them, the crap can keep it from sparking, make sure your fuel is working, are you getting a slight buzz from the back when you turn the key on? when you take the plugs out, are they covered in fuel? check these first because these are most likely the culprit

I put new plugs on and nothing but I hear something in the back of the car like a pumping noise. Could this be the fuel pump or what. I tried starter fluid and it sounded like it was about to start. Doee anyone think it could be the fuel pump and should I go and change the pump and fuel filter also.

There could be several reasons that the car does not want to start. But generally getting/buying a car that has been sitting for so long especially a rotary I would do the basics. I consider the basics this;
- New oil and filter
- New coolant/distilled water mix
- New plugs
- Drain gas and put fresh fuel in the car (I would put a min of 4-5 gallons for initial fire up)
- Charge and test the battery if it’s ok then use it if not get a new one.
That should get you up and running. If the car has been dry of fuel you might have to prime the fuel system. On the other hand it could be flooded as well. When you are trying to start it are you pulling out the plugs to see if they are soaked in fuel? Do a search on some of these items there are many posts about it.

from what I had to do on a major flood...removed all the spark plugs and the egi fuse and crank for 5-10seconds and pump the gas out ..clean the spark plugs and let them dry...reinstall everything and it might start right up...If it flooded as bad as mine did an oil change is mandatory

I just change the spark plugs last night. But when I change two of the plugs on the right side espeically the bottom one. it was wet with oil not a lot.
Is it a good idea to remove the injectors and clean them and oh yeah, How do I remove the injectors and clean them as well. Is this a easy procedure.

I forgot to mention my gas gauge is not working. I filled the gas tank with more 5 gallons of gas. I turn key to see if the gauge goes up but nothing.
What problem could this indicate too.

I am listing what I have changed on the car to get it started.
spark plugs
oil change
fuel filter
add gas plus it has been very cold in NJ I add dry ice just in case
new battery
I will buy new wire today and see if that will work
does the subzero effect the car from starting if not filled.
I hear something in back of the car and I believe its the fuel pump in the back but, do I need to hear that is working or it should not be heard.

Change the oil, and the fuel filter behind the engine.
Pull the EGI fuse, crank it over a few times (15 sec), replace EGI fuse, and crank it and see if it starts.
