I was changing my transmission oil..

And it started raining

Anyway, since I changed to Mobil1 synthetic 75W90 gear oil, pretty much all my gears started grinding really bad, 2nd in particular... it's like I cannot shift into 2nd without either waiting 20 seconds or letting it grind. I am i the process of changing it back to 80W90 dino oil. Have any others had this happen? Will it be OK with the normal oil again, or is the transmission FUBAR?

Really? Are you sure you put enough in? I really doubt it's due to the cold weight.

It stopped raining, so I went back outside with my trusty maglite and finished the job.

The transmission was filled to spec with both the prior synthetic and now the dino oil. The synthetic I just drained out of it was black and full of brass "glitter" from my poor synchros. This kindof annoyed me, because that oil is still pretty fresh (maybe a month old.)

I just took a 15 mile test drive, and it grinds every time I downshift into second, sometimes downshifting into 3rd, and only occasionally when upshifting into second or downshifting into fourth.

Is my transmission shot, or could it be something nice and simple like the clutch master cylinder? These grinds started before the first oil change, got worse with the synthetic, and now seem a little better with the new dino oil. I'm going to replace the new stuff with more dino oil in a few days to flush it, it's only like $6/gallon.

It did smell heavily of sulfer, yes. I hope that wasn't what happened.

Drain that stuff RIGHT NOW. It will destroy your trans, I had it do that same thing to my talon tranny and 3 weeks later, it was dead. Been using royal purple ever since. I think the grinding is from it not staying on the gears...I don't think your tranny is F'd yet.

Yeah, I did... that was why i created this thread

40 miles later with the new oil, it feels like it's trying to smooth out... but 2nd is still bad. When I get my next paycheck, I'll look into some Redline.

2nd is almost always bad in FC transmissions. The syncro wears out quickly through use.

My NA has been on Royal Purple for over a year now.
nail 2nd video

The tranny in the TII I'm looking at is almost too quiet.
It makes me wonder if it's full of STP or something.
