I have +35mm wheels and I don't have rings.

Usually if you buy wheels from a good place, they'll include the rings as well. I know the technical reason for the rings is to stop the vibration. It seems the pattern is if your wheel choice is in the high mm offset like FWD cars, you'll "most likely" have to get or will get rings. If it's a low mm offset like RWD cars, then you'll "most likely" won't need rings.

Examples:
I have Advans @ 35mm - no rings included
Buddy Clubs (for hondas/acuras) - rings included
LongChamps (oldschool jdm wheels; usually in the teens-mid 20s) - no rings
Konig Rewinds (deep dish style; negative offset) - no rings

If you drive around and feel that you need rings, make sure it fits the wheel. So 4 or 5 by whatever @ X offset. Rings can come in plastic form or in metal form. Both do the same job. I believe a set of rings will only put you back max 20$ + tax...if that.

Some shops are nice enough to take off a wheel for you and test fit one to make sure. I'd ask first.

Hubcentric rings are to keep your wheel centered on your hub regardless of width or offset. Aftermarket wheels are given a generic bore (I think 73mm is the standard) so they can make one wheel style fit many applications. Although many cars share the same bolt pattern, there are few that share the same hub diameter, thus the use of hub centric rings. If you don't use hub-centric rings you are relying on the studs/lug nuts/wheel hole pattern to keep your wheel centered and is a far less accurate way to keep your wheels centered/centric with your hub and you may get some vibration (picture a e-shaft for our engines). Hub centric rings should always be used, and as cheap as they are $8.00~$15.00 on ebay, you have no excusses not to use them. The FC hub bore for a hub-centric ring (ring ID) should be 56mm. The OD of the hub-centric ring will be determined by your wheel manufacturer (most are 73.1mm, my RAYS Gram Lights are 64.8mm).

I just read the thread that was posted in the second response above. Apparetly theres conflicting FC hub measurements from what I posted. http://discountwheelwarehouse.com/Ma..._Reference.cfm says its 59.6mm. I guess VOLK/RAYS sent me the wrong hub-centric rings, because these are 56mm. I havent mounted these on my car yet, so trust the link I just provided or measure them your self with calipers before you purchase them.

My hubs required a 60 or 61mm ID, the recomended 56 was way too small
