Winter weather - traction is the only downfall. My car runs fine in cold weather, granted I'm sure KY weather isn't a good comparison.

On my turbo bridgeport traction is a big problem, starting the car up in the morning with really cold temps is not a problem(start right up)but i have 2 wait until the car warms up to get off the gas pedal if not it will idle like crap and flood sometimes other than that after is fully up 2 operating temp is fine.I dont have a rear wiper so that is kinda like a pain in the *** if it snowing,if the car sits really low with a front mount dont drive on snow cause it will pack in there and block air flow and the car will overheat.I only drive mine during winter if is not snowing,no snow or ice on the roads and during daylight and of course you have 2 washed after that.

Don't block off the fast idle system. And watch for boost spikes.

Well my 7 starts fine in cold weather, sometimes the doorlock is a PITA but deicer is
your best friend.
I would say, get a good (!) set of Winter tires and drive safely and let it warm up a bit before then it will be no problem.
Thats what I am doing.
Due to our 3 different washer tanks, deicing if necessary goes quick.
Only drawback will be the condensation on the inner sides of the windows,
but heater helps.

The engine will smoke quiet a bit when very cold weather conditions.
If you get caught over here deicing your car while running engine you will get a ticket ...

Here they are using salt to preveng ice buildup, I hate it, it destroys my cars.

I got a set of studded snows for my FC and I've taken it up over Loveland Pass to go snowboarding several times. I've been the one passing the 4x4s on I-70 and US-6. A little driver skill and finesse on the throttle and you'll be fine.

I would find that the gear box would be hard to operate, but that happens with pretty much any car when it gets bitterly cold out

even automatics can be hard to shift into gear when its super cold out

with the lack of traction and the increase in rattles and squeeks I think its best to park it once the first snow comes and they ruin the roads with salt and or sand

the key part of your question says you have a rew swap. what engine management are you running? with a stand alone ECU the car might be impossible to start in freezing weather without a water temp map correction.

I also drove a 1st gen year round, and through one of the worst winters we had and had since.
Skinny 185 tires and some sand bags behind the seats worked wonders, thing was carbed and manual choke- started everytime

When my swap was complete and tuned it all seemed fine until it got REALLY cold out, then it was very hard to keep the car running until it warmed up. Cold tune is a must

Don't you have block heaters up there you put in place of the oil dipstick. Problem solved if the oil is already warm?

I believe it's not so much a problem with cold oil as it is cold combustion chambers. It's too cold in the block and the manifolds to get the fuel to vaporize, and the engine just floods out. I've been having this problem for the last couple days. Need to send out the injectors to get cleaned, hopefully that will help. If not, I'll get an RTek if they add the ability to adjust the starting maps for S4 N/A. Failing that, umm... not really sure...

That being said, once it starts, it runs great.

Just rebuilding the injectors should fix you right up.
It hasn't even gotten that cold here yet...

I know, but she's flooded 3 of the last 5 times I've tried to start her. Wasn't having these problems last month when it was in the 80s. :/

I think that's coincidence, not causation.

I drive my FD more in late fall before my winter storage. The colder dense air is ideal for engines; especially the rotary that performs best at lower temps.
