haha

all you have to do is give it a good yank. I suggest leaving the retaining nut on a couple of turns that will ensure you do not hit your self.

I use a Dremel to cut a slot in the heads, and then just unscrew them with a standard screwdriver. An alternate method is to use a hammer and chisel to make the slots, but I like the Dremel method better because there is no impact to the steering column.

BTW, you can get a steering wheel puller from your local auto parts store for about $10-15, and it makes life much easier, but I guess you got it off, anyway.

Also a good idea to mark the center of the wheel and spindle. Makes it a lot easier to get it back on dead center without having to futz around several times.

When you try to put the steering wheel back on, it's going to take you a few tries to get the steering wheel spokes straight when the front wheels are straight. Had you marked it first it would be much easier. It doesn't really make much difference if your steering wheel isn't exactly alligned, but it looks strange, and some people like to use the steering wheel look/feel as an indicator of the angle of the front wheels.
