I personally find it easier to pull the engine and tranny out together and do all of the seperating/reattaching outside of the car. I'm sure its easier to pull the engine when its seperate from the tranny, but I don't want to risk e-shaft damage in the process.

Of course it depends what your doing but in most cases Id say to remove them together and seperate them later.

Tranny is mint and is staying in the car, i really dont see a reason to remove it unless its necessary or easier. All im doing is swapping out my blown s4 core form my great condition S5 core, luckily i already ganked the tranny out of my s5 car so the s5 short block is just kinda tetering in the engine bay my the mounts, removing that one will be dead easy.

I find it easier to pull them out together. It gives you an easier approach at cleaning, changing gear oil, and replacing the tailshaft seal while it is sitting on a bench.
