How rich is too rich

I installed my a/f ratio gauge today and it pegs to full rich at idle and most of the time under load, and goes to full lean on decelleration. It does bounce back and forth at cruse. I know it's supposed to run rich at idle, but how rich. shouldn't it be pretty close to stoichiometric most of the time to make the best power to fuel consumption? I've never had an a/f gauge in anything before so i dunno.

Sounds right. First the A/F's are terrible sensors except at stoich. Also, Rx-7's idle better when tuned rich and should be running rich under boost to be safe.

Lean on decel is normal. ECU is programed to cut fuel on decel.
