To do this, you must remove the drive pin from the shifter extension housing via a punch and a hammer through the side-access plate, and then unbolt the long bolts through the transmission... pry off the rear half, being careful not to ding your rear trans seal on the transmissions output splines, and as the shifter selector rod slides out, you will be able to remove your broken shifter extension housing.
Looks like you need to take the rear casing off, anyway, to replace the cracked part holding on the shifter extension housing.
I've broken the shifter extension housing there ebfore... been shifting too hard?

I had no trouble getting mine off just following the FSM in the end.
Where does it get stuck exactly?

The red cricles are where the dowels are; they are about 1/4" in diamater, and 1/2" high.
When you hammer out the pin, put the car into reverse. It will be helpful iff you remove the shifter-centering springs when you do this, so remove the small two-bolt plate on the driver's sdie, and the single bolt at the very back.
You need to remove the pin in the shifter wrist in order to remove the rear shifter casing. The shifter rod will slide out the pipe when you pull off the rear casing, and then the shifter extension housing will slide right off, over the dowels.

how did it go? Im currently trying to remove the extension housing also. I've been following the first couple of steps from http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory..._non_turbo.pdf but it still wont let go. It seems like the control lever wont go completely vertical. So if it worked for you, could you tell me what you did to remove it?
I had to remove the extension housing off of my 79' tranny and that was a whole lot easier.
Thanks for looking
