How reliable are j-spec engines?
I know it's a gamble when buying a j-spec engine.. But how reliable are they actually? I know most people buy them and immediatly do a rebuild. I'm looking at a JDM TII motor w/ tranny, alternator, harness, p/s pump and all the goodies for $800. Yae or Nae?

Well, theres really on way to tell. It might be in perfectly good shape, or it might be on its last legs. Even if you have to rebuild it, 800 for all that sounds like a good deal to me.
It depends who you buy it from. also at that price, I'm guessing that your looking at another 300-400 in shipping. If you want a quality J-spec deal with a quality seller like rx7 club member japan2La. My J-spec has 300miles on it and is almost at 300hp.
DO NOT BUY FROM OSAKAJDM.com THEY do not stand behind thier products. I ordered 3 motors all at the same time 2 were total trash the third was fine.... OSAKAJDM I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!

I don't remember who I got mine from, but it was about 2 years ago. got it running good a few months ago (computer stuff), and its the best running motor the car has ever had. put down 225hp at the wheels, and I've done a bunch of drift events and racing with it, and its running better than ever.
don't know how long its gonna last.... but its doing great now! lol.
