How to physically differentiate differences b'n TII series Transmissions?

When sorting them apart, how can I tell the difference?

I understand the s5 Tranny Is more ribbed, as opposed to the s4 one.

Is their any other differences? Perhaps location of Startors? Anything to distinguish them apart?

other than the 5th gear, I thought they were the same, but just in case they are different, here is a nice bump

Besides having more ribs, the T2 has a bolt on bell housing and the N/A's bell housing is part of the case.

I just went out in my garage and looked.

he's looking for info for external differences between a S4 T2 (R-type) tranny and a S5 T2 R-type tranny, not between the M-type (as found in N/As) and the R type.

Is there a part number visible on the tranny case? If so, you could look at the microfiche and compare numbers.

I'd look at my transmission, but my garage is unlit and I'm in my boxers.
