how much longer?

my friend just got his first 7 and it does not start the best and blows white smoke at high revs when first taking off. i have not yet done a comp test but am prety sure that the results will be low. How long will he normally have untill the motor is fuc*ed and what will exactly happin? the car pulls just like mine and runs great! any idea on a time limit?

thanks!

The km on a rotary machine depend how the car is drove. but between 200,000 ans 250,000KM it's a good motor !

for the white smoke, I thing this could be the coulant seal in the motor.

hope this help

I am thinking coolant seal. That's what happened with my first rx7 on its first engine. A compression test will not always disclose that it's the coolant seal, because it could be on the other side of the compression stroke.

Does your coolant level go down?? Does the overflow bottle have bubbles, or does it boil when you run the car at operating temperature?

yes it is not my car and he did just buy it but i remember it was overheating so i replaced the thermostat and than it started spraying fluid out of the realese cap( the upper one) so we got a mazda one on so far so good. it still does rise pretty high somtimes but never to the red like before.

if its a coolant seal is the motor fucked? and how hard is it to replace?

also i was told that because it doesn't start very good the compression could be bad. so i went with that thought but it runs so good after it starts! it is just as fast and pulls just as hard as mine. mine only has 120,000 km

thanks for ya help!

Coolant seal is impossible to replace without a rebuild, and most likely either needs an end housing or an intermediate housing.

You won't notice too much performance change, except one day you will boil out all your coolant and you will overheat (this EXACT thing happened to me with my old NA). You can keep driving until it dies. But if you do wait til it overheats, you might warp your housings, or worse.

So start saving for a rebuild. My engine only had 137,000km before it went.

hummm it doesnt overflow or anything. very weird. umm how much is a full rebuild cnd? and how long does it normally take with the rebuild vid? and some basic skiils?

or is it just better to but a new motor? cause if u rip apart your motor and u need a new housing aint that gona be like another 2 grand?

I never actually rebuilt a motor, so i couldnt tell ya. I have however ripped apart a 13b. Its pretty simple, but there are alot of knick-knacks and doohickeys they call "seals" that might become a problem since they have to be arranged and installed JUUUSSST right. You only get one chance to rebuild it, and if you fack it up, you gotta pull it again and spend the money to rebuild it again

For a first timer? Take about a week off work, including pulling and reinstalling the engine. Get yourself all the tools ready, the video, the shop manual, and hte parts, and you might be able to get it done in a couple of days if you're ambitious.
