I know a guy who is debating between his working stock lines and USED Racing Beat stainless steel lines. Anyway I need whichever lines are leftover and he seems like he might be flakey (or at least indecisive). So I'd like a good $ amount to offer for the used SS lines so I can push to get them before my leaky lines blow. New RB lines sell for $215.

I did some searching and I figure $25 for the stock lines is generous. I just need a number for the SS lines. I know a hydraulic shop could make good lines super cheap, but I don't want any downtime on my DD while I try to deal with the fittings.

 

try 100 go 150 if you have to see what the hdraulic shop will do it for

 

I search e-bay to see how readily available they are and find the avg. price.

Can't find them on Ebay right now though. Rules of thumb for me if I get at least 25% off list then I jump on it.

Offer 150. One of two things will happen:

1. He'll haggle until you reach an agreement
2. He'll get all butt-hurt for "low balling him" and will ignore you from that point on.

It all depends on the person.

 

I must a cheap SOB - because I would start at 50 to 75 for USED RB SS Lines.

 

^ Maybe the other guys didn't read carefully enough. I've seen new RB SS lines resold for $165. These lines are USED. Not just previously owned, but actually used. As in oil went through them. Thx Rotary_MD, at least I got one opinion so far.

 

You never mentioned anything about new ones reselling for 165 till now. So unless I'm supposed to read imaginary things then I read carefully enough.

It also depends on how long they were on the car. I try not to super low ball ppl because they get all pissy and offended but if you think he'll let them go for <$100 then try. You've dealth with him longer so you know whether or not you can offer him that much.

 

^ Ya true, I forgot to mention $165. Though that was only b/c he was getting desperate. He originally was asking $215 for the lines plus the adaptors that you need with them. The adaptors are $22, so he was basically trying to sell the set for $22 less than what he paid, then dropped to $72 less. So actually the brand new price is $237 for everything.

Back to the used lines I want to buy. I haven't dealt with him very long, and I don't have a very good idea about how much the lines are worth regardless. So, phoenix7, you knew they were used and you think/thought I should offer ~$150? And now you think I should offer something over $100? Okay, from 2-3 posters I got 2-4 numbers that stretch to both ends of the range I was guessing, lol. Mmm, hopefully I can get a couple more opinions to give me a better idea. So far I'm guessing $120, but I don't want to offer that and find out that $70 is enough.

 

no, I said if you think you can get him to sell for < (less than) $100 then try but it all depends on the guy's personality and desperation to sell.

I think $150 is reasonable (less is better) for lines that only had oil running through them (it's not like you're buying used spark plugs). How badly can you screw up SS oil lines? Worst case scenario: you have to buy new crush washers. If he's local then inspect them to make sure they are intact if not then have him send you very good pics of the lines.

 

$50 - 75 for oily used lines sounds fair.......
He doesnt like the offer he can tell you a higher price or keep his his stuff!!!

 

I paid $45 for used stock lines. Used items should sell for half of what new ones would cost. At some point you may as well buy brand new ones.

If people get mad at an offer it is only because they do not have any negotiating skills. So that makes it their problem, not yours. Many Americans lack this skill and in some countries if you do not negotiate the seller feels offended. I guess they think they sold it too cheap.

 

$100 is a fair price, maybe more if they come with ALL the fittings. or you can just make some
