optauto.com has some much cheaper ratio modifiers (100 bucks, but not as versitile as an Apexi AFC)

If you want to be a real hack, cut a small hole on the intake duct between the TB and the MAF. cover it with cloth or something to filter air- Then more air will be going in than the computer is detecting with the MAF. Therefore, leaning out the mixture!!
An A/F meter is recommended to figure the right size hole.. or get voltage using a multimeter off of the o2 sensor.
God help us all.

Or just hook the air pump up to the intake tract after the AFM.

Rtek.

I've taken out about 10% fuel in the cruise area of the map and I'm up to 16.5-16.7 afr @ 80mph.

mix trim pot is next to the AFM ( s4 ) clockwise is richer
while s5 has an air bypass around the AFM built in for fine tune purpose

else SAFC,, or a real ECU

That trim pot is only for idle.

that trim pot is in full time use,, its a modifier to the AFM output all the time , and not switched on or off cause the car is at idle or not

the s5 AFM has an air bypass in it instead ,, do you also suggest this only works at idle?

Trim pot is idle, it's in the fsm, also do a search. Why in gods name would someone pay 3-400 dollars for electronics if we had a free screw?!

I do. It is only for idle and nothing more.

I believe bumpstart is talking about the screw on the side of the AFM, not the variable resistor (which is only for idle mixture). The bypass on the AFM changes how much air goes around the measurement plate, and is therefore not part of the fuel calculation. The net effect shouldn't be much, but it will affect the mixture at ALL times, so I really wouldn't recommend it. Same thing goes with opening an S4 AFM to mess with the spring.

From the training manual. It does say the bypass is there for idle mixture, but a small amount will always pass through it.
