How long to remove motor ?

On average how long does it take you guys to take a motor out ? I have a 88 rx7 and i'm going to put a new motor in it this weekend. Never played with a rotary before but i have done several Honda swaps. Do i need to loosen up the tranny mounts or not ? By the looks of things it really pretty straight foward (or i hope). It's N/A by the way.

It took me and a few friends about 5 hours from start to finish with air tools. That was our first time pulling an engine though, I've heard of people doing it in like 3 hours, maybe even less. It was pretty straight forward, I would recommend having a factory service manual though. You can find it online at www.teamfc3s.org if you don't have a hard copy.

I have swapped out 3 and have it down to about 3 to 4 hours. The first time I took it out, I was done in about 6-7 hours.

I have mine down to 4.5 hours.. including clean up!
however that is after 3 swaps... I would suggest for you first time to alot 6-8 hours.
and LABEL EVERYTHIGN! that will make it going in alot easyer!

If you've done motor pulls before, then I wouldn't worry about it. It'll be a 4-5 hour job for you. 6+ hours if you bought the beer BEFORE you started the project.

For your first time, give it 4-5 hours, though it can easily be done in about 1.5.

Check out my writeup for help. This is the easiest way to do it, if you have the proper equipment and workspace.

Why remove the engine for that job? It takes maybe an hour to get the front cover off in the car, 30 minutes to replace the afflicted parts, and another hour or 1.5 to replace the cover and associated parts.

3-4 hours to pull, disassemble, and lay out the parts on the bench.

the_jester_21m...

The front cover has the OMP, the series 4 OMP was a activated with a rod, the series 5 is electrical.... Your ECU won't be able to control the Series 5 OMP. There are a few other small things you need to prepare for also....

Check out Kevin Landers site.... www.rotaryresurrection.com

Also the sticky at the top of the forum which has notes about the series and differences.

I would suggest a day or 2 of research here and in the shop manual before you open a tool box....

You need to be aware of alot more concerning the S4 & S5 swaps

dont forget to get liquid wrench if your using hand tools...some of those bolts can be hard to get off after 15 years, air tools make a big difference

I'll be at my uncles shop with air tools and lifts. I'm hoping to be able to pull the old one and install the new one in under 7 hours. I think it won't be a problem. Hardest thing will probally be lining up the input shaft with the clutch disc.
