Well I don't have the actual numbers, but my mechanic told me my compression results were like 80- 85's all around. How bad is that exactly? Can it last a long time being that low or am I needing a rebuild real soon?

a long time, or a short time. It really depends on the rest of the engine. It may blow tomorrow, or in 10 years. A compression check is a pretty crude way to check the engine's condition. Unfortunately you'll never know the condition of the engine until it blows.

Hey Chris,

When you bought the car did the guy say he rebuilt it before? If so, how many miles was that ago? Your compression should be fine man....don't think about it all the time. I've got 193,000 original miles on my car and it runs great! Your car should last you a long time, just make sure you change the oil every 1500 miles or so and check your plugs often and you should be fine man

my $0.02

Mike

Was the engine tested cold or warm? Was it rebuilt recently? Was your battery fully charged?

These stuff can throw off "real" compression #'s. Unfortunately, a compression test will only tell about the apex seals, not the coolant or oil seals. So its tough to say how long it will last.

My friend with an FD premixes with, believe it or not, that "Marvel Magical Mystery Oil" and he says it's the best thing he's ever done to the car. He also put it in his lawnmower, thing cuts grass like there's no tomorrow now!

I use that stuff sometimes. Does he put it in his oil too? I used it in my GFs MX6 and it seemed to work great. Never heard of running it in the oil of a rotary though.

Oh and I did the ATF trick, but I don't think I put enough in because it didn't smoke all to hell like most people describe it. I'm going to do it again though soon and probably leave it in there a week or so.

Nah, he uses Mobil 20W-50 for his oil. Thing runs so hot it's rediculous.

You shouldn't do the ATF trick unless your car is pretty damn flooded.
