How to know if MSD is working?
Just curious, but I put in an MSD 6A in a while back and just wondering if the THING is working or not?...I could really FEEL any difference after adding it. If its NOT getting any power from the battery, the car won't even start right?

i installed a crane ignition and didnt see any increase.. so i sold it..
you can check to see if you ignition is working two ways. you could check for a lite... or use a voltage meter to see if it is getting power.
if it wasnt working you would not get a spark at all on your primary coils.(if you wired it htat way)
you would however get the trailings to run by themselves, and i have heard that it will run on just these, but very shatty.
if you wanna check for spark pull the egi fuses and pull one spark plug off at a time, jam a screwdriver into the end where the spark plug goes and set the metal on the driver near a ground source, such as the nuts on the top of the shocks. when you crank the car you should see a pretty brite spark. test them all.. if they are going and sparking that means your igniton system is working.
hope this helps you!

Just use a timing light to check that the leading plugs are firing. BTW, as I found out, a rotary engine will run surprisingly well on Trailing plugs alone. It will just rev sluggishly and bog a bit when you take off from a standing start.

I WONDER WHY these ignition boxes DO NOTHING at all for us?! I mean, they promise so much, yet deliver NOTHING noticeable. Why is that? We got aging cars with aging ignition systems, for sure an amplifier would bring the systems back to life better then ever right, but doesn't seem to be that way at all!

i actually like my crane ignition. i felt like i could feel a noticible difference in lower rpms w/ the rev and power. i guess just b/c the mazda ignition is already good but its supposed to have multiple sparks below like 3k rpms. i know its workin b/c its got a little red light thats on

I tried a Jacob's Rotary (not the Pro) Pack and sent it back. Just not worth the cost. The stock ignition is PLENTY strong. I foolishly found out (checking to see if all coils were firing) that the coils put out enough power that the coil can arc 3-4 inches to the wire after if you pull a wire off while the car is running.
What was worth the cost after an exhaust & intake was the MD racing ECU. I just spoke with a guy this weekend at our autocross who was another happy customer with the increase.
For more info, do a search on MD Racing. There's lots of threads about it.
