How To: Hacking the A.A.S. "Sport" Button
Hi all,
I wanted to see if I could use a spare Auto Adjusting Suspension switch for my own purposes. This is the switch in the center console by the mirror controls. The goal is to be able to use the factory switch turn on a secondary accessory. In my case, it turns on a relay, but can activate any low-current 12v accessory. Use your imagination, foglights, nitrous arming, ect.
This hack requires NO irreversible modifications. It uses the factory wiring and the factory switch. If your car came with A.A.S. (it probably no longer functions), the control unit needs to be left unplugged for the jumpers to work. It is to the right of the tire well behind the trim.
The AAS switch supplies 12V to the factory AAS when in the "SPORT" position. The idea is to jumper the 12V switched output from the switch to either the front or rear shock towers. This all takes place at the AAS control unit harness plug.
Here is a picture of the locations of the wiring
R-06 is the location of the "SPORT" switch, R-07 is the control unit.
Here is the wiring diagram ("L/Y" is Blue/Yellow):
Note that there are 3 wires sent to each shock tower (labeled RR,RL,FR,FL).
I used only one of these wires for the switch. The harness plug for the AAS control unit also has a pin for ground and switched 12V (not from the "SPORT" button). If you wanted, you could use all 3 to supply ground, 12V, and switched 12V for a relayed device. From the wiring diagram, key-on 12V is Green/Orange and ground is Black.
Here is the factory switch. The Blue/Yellow ("L/Y" in the wiring diagram!) wire is the 12V switched output.

Here is the front passenger side shock tower. Note the White/Red wire. This is the same wire as in the back of the car. If you jumper Blue/Yellow to White/Red, this wire (on BOTH sides) will get switched 12V.
Bonus points for anyone who can guess what the air cylinder is for
Drivers side front shock tower. I placed a light bulb at White/Red and ground.
"SPORT MODE" OFF
"SPORT" mode ON
This mod is incredibly easy. All you need to do is add one jumper (and the AAS switch if not equipped) and wire your accessory at the engine bay. The accessory just uses crimp on male 1/4" spade connectors.
I hope this is clear and makes since. Writing this up took longer than the actual mod!

good thinking. i've been using the AAS wiring for years, as theres a 12V 30a switched power wire and a ground in those plugs too.
hmm sport mode...

I should also mention that using the shock tower connectors is an easy way to get power from one side of the car to the other. Because the FL/FR and RL/RR connectors each tee together before the AAS control box, The same wire colors are connected at each corner. For example. W/R, W/L, and W/B are in the connectors at both front left and right. The front left connector is conveniently close to the fuse block. You could easily tap into the fuse block and supply power to the right connector AND the AAS control harness plug. It's also a heavy gauge wire so you'd be able to handle more amps.

I finally got this mod working and my car running. I have the switch set up to toggle a SPDT relay on/off. I have 2 outputs from my Megasquirt into the 2 output pins of the relay and the input (common) pin going to the power side of a set of solenoids. By putting the switch in "Sport" mode, the relay sets my "Sport" map from the megasquirt to the VGT solenoids which turns them on/off depending on boost/rpm.

First time you can really say that you have plenty of ideas coming out of your AAS!!.
(I've seen guys use that thing as a Brake light when Racing..Get in front, hit the button and it looks like you are braking..
Guy hits the brakes while you are actually Gunnin it.....haha!)
