How to get a stiffer clutch(Mines really soft)

Here's my situation. I have new clutch hydraulics, and a new clutch (It's a replacement from NoPistons.com), I also have a stainless steel clutch line. My clutch is still VERY soft. I never got to drive it before the clutch hydraulics went out, so I don't know how stiff it should be. Anyway, Like I said, It's very soft, and it seems to slip alot sometimes. Basically, I just want to make the pedal stiffer, because right now the pedal is about 3 times softer than the one in my Moms 93 Ford Escort station wagon.

Whats the best way to get a stiffer pedal/clutch. I've bled it a few times, and I'm planning to bleed it again tomorrow.

Anyone have any tricks etc?

My car is an 87 base.

I think the stiffness is going to depend on the pressure plate your using. Is it a stocker? Also, how do you mean its slipping? slipping with the clutch fully engaged? or just slips alot before that point? A stiff pedal isn't necesssarily going to help anything, it just will feel stiffer to your leg. I replaced my stocker a while back with the RB racing pressure plate which added very little stiffness, but a very noticable increase in clamping pressure.

It slips alot before it grips. but If I drop it, it will grip right away.

So what exactly is it you want it to do? Are you just looking to roast the tires on a regular basis or are you thinking the clutch is burning up because of improper engagement? If you burn it, you'll definitely be able to tell from the horrible odor. If it isn't doing that, it sounds about normal. Should engage easily and completely without a great deal of effort on the pedal.

umm.... that's what a stock clutch and pressure plate is supposed to do.

You can do something. Get a new pressure plate that's stiffer than stock. It may not help anything though and may make launches more difficult. Also, if you have any interest in different engagement characteristics, read the clutch explainations on the Mazdatrix website. Some good info there.
