how to get "breakaway" blots off

ok im taking out my ignition column cuz i need a new one and i took off the steering wheel and everything and im down to the retaining plate that holds the ignition cylinder on...there are 2 "breakaway" bolts on there...i have no idea how to get them off...anyone ever done this? they are flat things with a bump on top of it...no screwdriver fitting and no 6 sides or 12 sided bolt, it shouldn't even be called a blot but anyone have an idea please let me know...thanks...gerry

Hammer & chisel. Or maybe you could do it w/vice grips.

Yes, exactly. I've done it. You described it pretty well, the part that the key goes in, ignition switch.

edit - when you have 'em out, you can grind them down for a wrench, or just put a regular headed bolt back in next time.

Broke your chisel? I guess I wasn't all that clear. I meant to turn them with the chisel. "smash them 'til they break"? No smashing. Just get a good bite where you'll have some meat to dig into in the direction you want to go.

Dremel a slot in the top of the bolts. Screwdriver backs them right out.
