It was on rollers, my top speed on the road is 146 steep downhill with a tailwind on I-90 east. But its per the speedo which isn't known for its accuracy above 100mph. It was probably more like 130ish or so.

BTW The above pictures are for 5spd swap guys only. The 390 Final only came with an auto tranny. So if you through an N/A 5spd into a auto chasis and kept the same Final and speedo drive, you get the above.

88 vert: manual - 3.9
89 vert: auto - 4.1
90 vert: manual - 4.1
auto - 4.1
91 vert: manual - 4.1
auto - 4.1

the Motor Trend test of August, 1989 shows an S5 (i assume an '89) and labels it as a 3.9 axle ratio. there's no 5spd coupe for 89 listed on mazdamark.com, so i can only assume it was a 5spd tested.
