Question How Far have you Gone? Costing to the Pump

After my Rx died and i rolled down the hill in to a gas sation, I wondered, how may other people have pushed it a little to far and ended up pushing it literally. So i ran out of gas on my to the Gas station, I know my gauge is off but for some reason i like to push it a little bit every time. As coasted right in and stopped in from of a pump, Ha i thought to my self i MADE IT. Only to see the sign on the Pump "Out Of Order" i had to push it to the next one. 17.533 Gal. Can any one top it?

I've been below 1/4 twice before.... and not by much

there is no point in waiting or going futher... you are just damaging your whole fuel system.

i ran out of gas 3 times when i had my turboII. something was effed up for a week or so and i only got 137 miles out of my tank cause i was running so rich.

my fuel gauge died and my low fuel light didnt work so it was kinda just fill up after 190-200 miles or so.

That's a bit dramatic. You can go a lot lower than that without problems. Unless you actually get to the point where the fuel pick-up sucks air then no damage is being done. Running right out is definitely a bad thing though. Overheats and kills fuel pumps.

When my needle is below empty it still only takes ~55L in a 63L tank.

BTW, this proves there's quite a bit of unusable fuel in the tank. S5's have a 18.5gal tank, so there's a whole gallon the pick-up can't reach.

I ran out of BOTH TANKS in the Truck within a span of three minutes. I was able to coast down a hill with the car off, and into a gas station.

My old Volvo died from lack of gas as I was putting it into park in front of a pump, once. ;P

Well, from what I understand. Running low on gas hurts the pump. The gas acts as a coolant, kinda.

I would geuss when the pump is submerged less then it will accrue more heat thus shortening the life span.

My friend has a 91 Camaro which he constantly ran to E almost and had to replace it a month ago.

I have never once run out of gas in my ten years of driving. But I blew an engine by dropping a nut in its front exhaust port!

ouch. i ALMOST dropped a nut in my intake runner when i was taking my intake manifolds off. luckily i have one of those magnet things to get down in there and ****** it out incase that happens.

i'm assuming you didnt know the nut was in there... that would be funny if you thought the engine would just like blow the nut out the exhaust or something..
