yeah but the only way it gets there is because its been building boost. how is it going to build it if the wastegate is open from the begining? I thought the wastegate had to be closed to even build the boost. I understand that it opens because of too much pressure but how is that pressure going to build up if the gate is open? its like I know a balloon when too full pops but when I try to blow up a balloon with a hole its not going to get full or even inflate at all?
As I said earlier, an open wastegate will slow the rate that boost builds. In lower gears you'll reach redline within a second or two and change gear before full boost can be reached. However in higher gears, where it takes a lot more time to reach the next gear, there's plenty of time.
Your balloon analogy doesn't quite work because the as revs increase so does the amount of exhaust gas being produced. Given enough time in say 3rd gear for the turbo to spool up (and we're only talking 5-10 seconds here) the flow conditions in the turbo will be exactly the same as if the wastegate was working normally, so full boost can be produced.
You've said you can't exceed 2psi in any gear. Is this really the case? If you're only talking about 1st and 2nd then a stuck open wastegate will cause low boost in those gears. Did you try 3rd or higher at high revs?

well really only in 1st and 2nd and part of third its only around the niegbor hood while I'm test driving it to see if the thing will spool. I know the guy before me that had it said that he got it on the interstate and it didn't spool either and that was in higher gears. But really I haven't seen it in person. I'm going to test this next weekend to see if what I did worked if not we will see.
wow for some one so smart
i would of thought you would have known, the percent sign is put after the number.
and if you think the wast gate can flow ALL the exhaust and non of it will flow thrue the turbo, i feel sorry for you and wish you lots of luck on the small bus.

Are we talking about gramatical errors now? what the hell does "thrue" mean? and wft is a "wast gate" and I assume non=none

i know i can't spell. the point is you have this im right and the world is wrong point of view and people like that **** me off.
and i don't understand why you are fighting with NZ in the first post not by the starter posted the same thing you are now claming you should be apologized to when his car works. WTF.
and hondahater sorry about the rant. on slow87's TII when we fixed the manifold ->turbo exoust leak. he gained 2psi at redline. so in low gears with a sticking waste gate and the leak could be you're problem.

I don't ask you to read my posts, nor comment on them. Infact there is a nice little ignore button if you don't like what i have to say, or it "pisses you off"
NTM: I was kidding about the appology, I don't expect, nor deserve one .... I was just kidding around, thus the smileys.

didn't mean to get everyone fighting. I think we can all agree that the wastegate opening up when supposedly closed will fix some of the problem however the out come I don't know when I find out next weekend I will tell you guys what happens. Oh should I go ahead and replace the gaskets while I've got the turbo off? Probably so. Anyways I think everyone is right to a degree however I hope rpeck is right because after this I don't see anything else that could be wrong let alone fix it (limmited mechanical skills).
replace them if there bad. the pre turbo gaskets cost too much to just replace. is i posted it may not do crap for you but on slow87's TII he went from 10psi at redline to 12. but he was also missing a nut and two of the others where finger tight so.
