Also, if anyone has pics of the sticker on the side of their S5, please post it.

'89/'90 had the TurboII stickers, '91 did not.

probably because so many people say "is that better than the first turbo?" From my understanding the Turbo was the first gen model and the Turbo II was the second gen model, makes sense to me.

edit *probably why they removed it I mean*

Turbonut has it right.

The TurboII name was only on the 87-90 cars. In 91 Mazda dropped the II part (even though the intercooler still said TurboII).

In 91 Mazda dropped all the sub model names. It was simply the Turbo, the Coupe, and the Convertible.

I do believe I read somewhere that it was called the Turbo II because it uses a twin scroll turbo. Not because it is a second version, there is no second version.

No, My understanding is it was a 2nd type generation Turbo model, the first being a Jap only 1st Gen turbo RX-7...Yes its a twin scroll design, but named for the 2nd series, 2nd Gen Turbo model...Turbo II...

Ether way, a great, low priced sports car that is very easy to mod up for very impressive driving!

S4s only had the twin scroll, the S5s use an electronic boost controller. I was always told that the first turbo was an FB, and that's why the FC is called Turbo II.

Congrats on 9000 posts

My 91 Turbo has no stickers. Now I know why! And all this time I thought I had a TII!

A few 1st Gen Turbo photos. Note the "Rotary Turbo" badges on the boot and B-pillar.

Jason, any Aussie sites with modded 1st Gen Turbos? Would be curious to see those set ups. What did they have for intercoolers? Any other info?

For some reason I'm thinking that the 12at didn't use an intercooler but I could be wrong.

I had one in my 84 Cosmo. Net info on modded 12AT's is pretty scarce, but www.dmrh.com.au (where those photos are from) has some info on the factory RX-7 and Cosmo installs.

Like most early-80's turbos, the 12AT never had an intercooler. It wasn't hard to add one though.
