Yeah. Quit slamming the buttons because you're only making it worse. You will probably need to remove the interior door panel for this, but look at the contact points of the buttons. There is probably dirt stuck in there. Just clean it and you should be fine.

i think they are notorious for breaking not working right
on mine i took the top part off and there are little white plastic "button" things. it looks terrible, but it works better. the switch hangs out some and the wires are exposed. that or you can buy another one

when i fixed mine i took the door pannel off and took the switch out. If you open the switch up there should be 4 copper things that rock back and forward. on my 86 GXL i bent the copper pieces so they rocked better. i had to play around with it for a bit but it did the trick. the driver side is the same, but if you break it it costs twice a much for a new one.

The aftermarket one touch modual for our windows is the DEI 530T window controller. Any viper or python alarm dealer should be able to get it for you.
besides adding one touch up and down, to both windows, it also can be wired up to roll up the windows when you lock the car with a keyless entry, or roll the windows down with an extra channel of the remote keyless or remote control alarm system.
*edit
The other cool thing with it is that your factory window switchs become low current switchs, so the ground and power to roll the windows up nd down, is no longer forced to travel through the switch contacts. The 530T provides all that, so the switchs simply trigger the 530T and the 530T then provides the power and ground to roll the windows up and down. This radically increases the life of the switchs.

on the one i bought for mine the plastic "boxes" that hold the spring loaded "feeler" cracked so that when i pushed the button, it just flexed and wouldnt push up on the copper tabsto make the windows go up or down
i tried to take several other switches and combine them to form one good one but i ended up just getting one from banzai
now my master window switch panel sits comfortably in the center console with no pass switch or roll up handlees

If you have any more problems in the furture....clean it and put a small soder bead on it to build up the conections. They wear down the more you use it. Should get you a good year out of them, saves you from having to replace them. It's worked great for us.
