Take the motor apart.

And secondly you can't buy a stock car thats ported because the porting will negate the stock status.

it means that the air intake openings on both the throttle body and intake have been ported...or made wider.

If you have to ask too many questions about it, then you probably don't want to buy the car

+1. I don't want to sound like an *******, but you should do some more research before you buy an FC. Parts will break, and you'll most likely have fix it yourself since most mechanics don't know anything about rotaries and Mazda dealers charge out the *** for labor (and they usually don't know what they're doing either ) Read the 2nd gen FAQ and look through the archives.

A ported throttle body means minor restrictions have been ground down and the inside has been polished for better airflow. The actual hole diameter and throttle butterflies are usually not increased in size.

A port matched manifold means the holes in the manifold match the holes in at least one other part that the manifold connects to.

Port matching should not be confused with "porting", which is the process of increasing the size of the inlet or outlet holes of the rotary engine block with the goal of increasing high rpm power at the cost of low rpm power, fuel consumption, noise and emissions.

A ported throttle body and port matched manifold will have very little effect on performance. I wouldn't bother trying to confirm either of the modifications for a street car, but the throttle body should be pretty easy to identify by the polishing. It sounds like the engine you are looking at was previously owned by somebody who either had too much time on his hands or was very serious about getting every last bit of horsepower and torque out of a "stock" engine.

I am the Bearingstien Bear of RX owners. I've owned and been around rotary engines for a while, but never had to work on them more than changing brakes, etc. My vert engine was killed in flash flooding and I always wanted to put a TII engine in my vert. I knew nothing previously about turbo engines, hadn't ever had to do any extensive diagnostics or work on my car. But insurance money provided the opportunity so I bought a JDM engine, had a shop put it in. I've been learning as I go. My local mechanic (who is very good) didn't want to mess with my car after the swap. I don't want to mess with my local Mazda dealership. My first sign that they shouldn't do work on the car was the parts counter manager who looked at me confused when I told him it was a vert, but I needed pricing on turbo parts.

I've met some great people on this forum and in real life who have helped me learn, but I wouldn't have imagined how expensive and time consuming things would have gotten. I've got no complaints, cause I love learning, DIY projects, and I love tinkering. But some friendly advice is to learn what your getting into, make sure you've got an RX mechanic nearby, or some people who can help teach you.

+1 for a better response and correcting me. I saw "porting" on the OC post.

No worries, and good luck! Just make sure you've got someone who knows rotaries as a backup for when you find you're in over your head.
