How do I remove the Lower Intake Manifold???

Ok so i was swaping the injectors on my 87 T2 and I noticed that spot that holds down the Fuel Rail is broken. (Hayes rotory or Mazdas and More) The shop that did it put a small pin in it to align the rail but there is still no way to install a bolt to hold down the fuel rail. Some how they where able to get it so the injcetor doesnt leak by just using the rear bolt, but i cannot.

Soooooooooo How to a remove the LIM?? I have a spare that I can replace it with but there are really no instructions in the FSM. Do i have to pull the turbo??

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It unbolts... Sorry, I dont have a better description but to just take everything off. There isnt much to it really. First unbolt the upper intake manifold, then take off the lower.

I kinda figured that it just unbolted. But it looks like some of the bolts are hidden behind the turbo.

Unless you go a swivel head ratchet I don't think you can get the LIM off without removing the turbo.

you have to take the turbo off to get to the LIM off, it's not too bad of a job, but it's time consuming.

It's pretty easy, although it could take awhile depending on your E-bay/exhaust setup and if you've ever removed the turbo before. Have you ever removed the turbo?

If you want a detailed explanation, PM me and tell me what your setup consists of.

Might as well replace your gaskets since you're pulling the turbo. Good chance to port your wastegate. If you ever decide to replace your exhaust then you'll need to do this anyways and get a FCD cuz s4 turbo's boostcreep like crazy.

Ok IF i had one how would i go about it. I got 1 swivel head and a sears near by.

as far as exhaust i got a RB 3" turbo back plus a Rtec 2.0 so im not to bad there.

and as far as gaskets I would probably replace those too.

Didn't there used to be a write up on the turbo removal?????

I WOULD REALLY RATHER GET THIS DAMN THING OFF WITHOUTH REMOVING THE TURBO!!!!!!

I really recommend pulling the Turbo to get the LIM off. This way when removing or putting it back on you don't strip out the bolt heads also you'll be sure to tighten them down properly. Just remember to just get new gaskets for whatever you remove.

A write up for turbo removal? Sure!

Grab a rachet and unbolt the misc. oil and coolant lines running to the turbo - there is one for the coolant, after unbolting it, you can move it out of the way. The same goes for the oil-in. BUT, the one oil-out line, that runs to the LIM, will not be bent out of the way. It will come off when you are pulling the turbo.

Next, there are 2 bolts on the top for the heat shielding. Get those out, they are 10mm. Also, there is 1 on the bottom...I had to jack up the car for this. While you're down there..bring a 14mm wrench, and do away with the downpipe bolts.

Once you've got those 3 off, get the 4 that are holding the turbo to the exhaust manifold. There's 4 bolts for it, and 1 of them is pretty much hidden. 3 of them are in plain view and should come off easily..this 4th one, however, I found I had to be completely underneath the middle of the car to get it in view. Just take you're time . Oh and, that big stainless braided coolant line that is SO in the way, can be bent for more clearance.

Now just pull..and the turbo will come right out. I duno if it matters, but I put my jack under the downpipe to hold it up to the right position. Maybe it helps keep some of the exhaust hangers in good condition?
