nah, dont drop ****.

just tilt the engine back some.

a jack and piece of wood under the oilpan can work, or something(like a scissorjack) wedged between the alternator and fanshroud can also work, slowly extend the jack. It can work, and you dont need to drop any damn subframe. I have parted out nearly 100 2gens, and I have converted about 5, and have yet to drop any subframe. **** if nothing else, a buddy with a prybar up front will work out fine.

I used a block of wood and a jack under the front pulley. It doesn't take much, don't get carried away.

I use a stick beside the battery, from the radiator support frame to the PS bracket.

Actually, what I've heard more often

"That thing will never fit!"

Seriously, you've already heard the right advise.

Stick a prybar into the exhaust manifold and pull down. I get what you saying in that you can't get the shift tower to move forward enough to move up into the hole. But, you need to get it up in there so you can get the tranny and engine lines up so the shaft will slide into the pilot bearing. Sometimes you just have to get it close, and give it a good shove to get it up in there. It's just sheet metal, so it will give a bit.

Pull, tilt, good hard shove to get things lined up, and it all should slide together nicely. (Damn, this is sounding like sex ed class.)
