how come no one makes anything cool for our cars
#28
One other thing to remember is that our cars are usually low in value as well. Many people simply can't justify spending $1400 plus on a set of coilovers on a $2000 car. That's just crazy to most people...too bad I'm not most people, hahaha. Just spent $1460 on a set of JIC FLT-A2, worth it to me!

At first I would have agreed with you..but after being on the FC scene for over a year now I have discovered a few things.
There may not be 100 different mfg or parts but if you need something you can usualy get a very high quailty part at a reasonable price. For example, so the Mazdatrix short shifter isn't "name brand" it works GREAT!
Most FC guys like to tinker and will make other parts work. I remember a thread about alternators where 6-7 different people found alternators from other cars to use on the FC.
A LOT of FC people, myself included at the moment, don't have the same amount of cash that an FD has. Jesus the cost of an FD starts at what you pay for it and doubles in the next couple of years as you have to fix the coke ***** of a car
If you are looking for "ricer upgrades" then thank God there are almost none for the FC

From a vendor point of view, most owners are not willing to spend the money...
I've got 3" custom aluminum cast Zenki airflow meter adapters for sale for $30, but nobody cares for them.  These are just larger versions of the HKS unit (HKS is 70mm inlet) with the nice contoured insides.
I'm also trying to get custom cast aluminum Kouki thermostat covers, but who's willing to pay $120 for them?
When I was working with K2RD, we thought a $1,000 big brake upgrade kit would sell well.  Boy, we learned the hard way it was a waste of time developing that kit.  Most owners balked at the "high price".
We've developed a number of items for the FC, but most of the expensive stuff just doesn't sell.  Major sellers are small, cheap stuff like block-off plates and crap.  The one exception are the shocks/coilover kits, since these are competitively priced with all the overpriced Tein/JIC/Cusco kits out there...
So next time when you ask why there isn't any parts, ask yourself how much you're willing to spend on these parts.  Bitching about them and then screaming how you don't have money will just get you dirty looks...
As for FD owners, it looks like they are trickling down to at least 3rd (and some 4th) owners.  I've run into a lot of kids who own them that have paid under $5,000 for their FD's!
