Well.. professional unltrasonic cleaning is the best way to go- unless you have access to an ultrasonic parts cleaner, or can convince a jewelry store to let you use theirs!!!
RC does it.

You can do some yourslef though, and clean them up a bit.

Get a can or carb cleaner or something comparable, and a DC transormer from radioshack or something with a 1-2 V output (1-2, not 12!!!)
If you try and open the injector with 12V- it'll fry in less than 10 seconds. Not good. It'll open with as little as 1V.. and can stay open for a LOT longer safely

Attach the wires to the injector, (real lucky if you have a spare plug too!)and you'll hear it click- it just opened.
I find that if you blow the cleaner backwards through the end of the injector (with the red straw that comes with spray cans), whith the injector open, it works well.
Spray it both ways, but try not to leave the injector on for more than 30 seconds... I like to flick it on and off while spraying, to clean up the moving elements inside.

Once thats done, soak the tips of the injectors in degreaser or carb cleaner overnight. (with the injectors off of course... or, if you are really serious, rig up a standard flasher relay or something to the circuit to keep the injectors opening and closing!!)

Once thats done, the next day, give it another clean spraying with the injectors open, and that's about all you can do.

Uh huh....

OK, there is no such thing as a DC transformer. So you obviously can't use one of those to clean your injectors.

Best advice is to get them professionally done. Most diesel shops do it for between $10 and $35 per injector.

I sent mine to Marren Motor Sports out of Connecticut. Balanced and blueprinted with new orings, caps, and inline filters for $23.75/ea.

Here's the link Marren

So what if.....

My question is this.. if you have leaky or old injectors, at what point to do you replace them as opposed to sending them off for either cleaning or rebuilding? And if you put larger injectors on a motor, does the computer know that its getting more fuel ?

It's uncommon to have to replace them. They can usuually be brought back to near-new condition by a professional cleaning. If they're truely shagged, they'll tell you.

Nope! You need a piggy-back fuel computer or anaftermarket programmable ECU.
