How bad is the play in this Turbo?
I bought a turbo on here got it and there is a alot of play in it and I wanted to see what everyone else thought......Its supsed to be in great condition and been rebuilt like 20,000 miles ago.......I can move the wheel back and fourth on the compressor and exhaust side enough to were is hits the housings. There is also some oil in the exhaust side.
here is a link to a video of the play you can download it if it doesnt work i can send it to emails or if someone knows how host it that would be great
http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/guest/...userId=1328553
Also the hard vac line that comes out of the compressor housing is not there its broken off.
Let me know what you all think
Thanks

If the turbine hits the housing at all, the bearings are worn out.
If it is run that way for very long, it may not be rebuildable.
The PO must have run it really hard to go through a set or bearings in 20K.

It needs re-rebuilt.....
I agree with sureShot... you'd better take the compressor housing off and examine the wheel, if its all chipped and gouges up from slapping off the housing, the wheel is shot and a re-build aint gonna cut it.
Run hard.. doubt it.. run out of oil or coolant... highly likely.

Well Im in a tight spot! I bought the turbo the guy said it was in great shape and was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago.....I messaged him saying it was bad and I needed my money back cause I cant afford to rebuild it or buy another turbo, and he said its a used turbo its gonna have some play and sorry but I sold it with out a warranty its a used turbo.
So I made this thread to get some more opinions on what I already thought and hopfuly persuade him to refund me my money.

A little play is normal when it is not under any oil pressure, I've been told this by several people on these boards. Were talking like a mm or 2 or play, nothing more.

I dont know if anyone has tried the video but there is enough play for it to rub on the housing. anyone else know about more play when its off the car???? I would say that when I move it to one side all the way there is about 1/8" or more between the fins and the housing.
