If the cooling system is in good shape, no. The cooling system was designed and tested to handle hot weather, but a ~15yo car is not going to be as mechanically sound as a new one.

yes hot weather CAN cause overheating, it heats up a big for me if i leave my car idling in the hot weather (+40c) for a while. this is likely a problem with my fan clutch thingy, because once i get moving its fine. it used to overheat severely, but then i changed the water pump and thermostat and flushed the rad. it used to get dangerously hot, but now the most i've seen is 210, whereas my normal running temp is 185.

what does it mean when the overflow tank is completely full...well almost to the top.
My car is running really hot, and i cant figure out what it is; i think it might be the fan now, but im not sure. i thought it mightve been the hot weather, but now i think its the fan

If coolant is not being sucked back into the radiator when it cools, the radiator cap is shot. There’ll be air in the system, which will cause overheating. Go to Mazda and get a new cap. Replacing the thermostat at the same time wouldn’t be a silly idea (Mazda again). When you refill the system remember to bleed it properly.
If you have cooling problems when the car is stationary, but it cools down once you’re moving, it’s the fan clutch. Do the cap first though.

Are you using water wetter?

Have you done a rad flush n' fill this year?

What grade of oil are you using? A heavier grade (20W50) will contribute a little to dissipating heat.

Have you installed an electric fan? There are several threads in here about installing an efan from a Fiero. It's quiet and moves more air than the 7's stock belt-driven fan.

Have you inspected the rad to see if it's clogged with crap from the road? Mine looked like the lint trap from Elton John's dryer when I checked it last month. If it's clogged, use a garden hose to GENTLY blow the crap out - NOT compressed air (you'll only mash the fins.) If the rad is cool, you can also hit it with a metal-friendly cleaner (I used Scrub-Free, the stuff meant for your shower) and let it sit for a while b4 spraying it out.

I just had to redo my cooling system with a new water pump and hoses and purchased a 2000cfm electric fan to replace the stock clutch fan. It just kept running hot with the electric fan, but with the stock fan it works well and stays cool. Even with the a/c it will not get hot. I imagine if you don't have the a/c condeser in front of your radiator then the electric fan would work, but damn, I would rather use the a/c then an electric fan cause its like 100 degrees everyday.

Flush your radiator our and put new coolant in it. make sure you flush it correctly.

pressure test it, ready to go. shouldn't overheat, unless your waterpump is failing.

You should flush and change your coolant once a year. Take care of your cooling system, as rotaries don't like to be overheated. use water wetter, and quality coolant. I use NEO-Synthertic. and NEVER buy a thermostat from anyone but MAZDA. STANT is crap....have a nice day.
