hmmm...

If you have power steering or power brakes (abs) then try pushing in the brake and steering and see if the idle drops or goes up....if it goes down, there is a problem with (BAC??) the thing that controls that and raises the RPM based on power requirements. ( I think that is the BAC, but I am not to sure.)

Sounds like you have a problem with the BAC valve. You might want to check the valve, it's responsible for raising the idle when the A/C is engaged.

the bac is VERY easy to replace. Its held on by 2 10mm bolts. There is a gasket that is behind it that probably costs a few bucks from a Mazda dealer, but probably won't be needed. Anyways, just use pliers to remove the clips holding the coolant lines to either end of the BAC. coolant will leak out the lines, and a little from the BAC, so keep a rag handy.
Note, I am not telling you that you need to do this, I'm just saying how it would be done if one were so inclined.
I you have a haynes manual or FSM, there are instructions on how to test it to make sure if its working properly or not.

Hey, I was just browsing my hard drive, and I dug up this little article, maybe it will help you. This is NOT my writeup.

"From: Tuck <sldbrass@infi.net>

Subject: <2> Pucker Up and Blow (BAC valve)

Dealer sez you need a new BAC valve? You don't want to blow 4 bills on a
tiny piece of junk? Shop manual tells you to make sure it clicks and
measure its resistance, You DO and it clicks but the resitance is high?
Wanna know for sure if the computer is controlling it correctly? Here's how:

Fire up the bad *** car, and let 'er warm up.

Remove the little metal clip so that you can pull the BAC plug on and off
easily with one hand.

Turn off the engine, but leave the key in the go position. Undo the
rubber hose that goes from the big rubber intake duct to the brass pipe on
top of the motor at the big rubber duct end. Stick it in your mouth and
BLOW. stranegly enough, it goes right through, no problem. Reach over and
unhook the current to the BAC. Pucker up and blow. Air doesn't even budge.
Put the connector back on, and you can blow through again. Congratulations,
there isn't a ******* thing wrong with your BAC.

Look to your TPS (can wear out and not set right) and your fast idle (wax
chamber) for the answer."

umm...I think you need to take your car to the Dealer to get them to fix it, then put an ad in the paper to sell it.

Resistance is measured in ohms by a multimeter. Should cost less than $25 from Wal-Mart.
