Hood Emblems????

Does anyone know of a thread discussing some of the different hood emblems used on second gens? Yes I did a search!!! I have an emblem that looks like a rotor on my 86. It's black and gold in color. Many of the guys in the club have said they've never seen that emblem before. Including several that are very active in the rotary community. I'm just curious???

Any pics? I believe the 10Th AE came with special gold/black rotor emblem, but I may be wrong..

You could have a transplanted 10AE badge?

Nope, it's not the 10 th AE badge. One of the guys who has a 10 th AE (along w/about 7 others) said he didn't recognize it. I don't have a picture of it. I can try and take one. I know the car was one of the very earliest second gens. Apparently SCCA members had the oppurtunity to pre-order second gens before anyone else. The manufacture date of the car is Sept. 1985.

manufacturing for the 86 models started 2 months before that.

Any emblems on the hood were added aftermarket or at the dealer level and did not come from the factory

It looks very stock. It says MAZDA across the top. I will take a picture of it and get it up as soon as I can. The guy I bought it from said it was on there when he got the car brand new. He left the car entirely stock. Not so much as an exhaust or intake change when I bought it.

I may have to go back and look at my manufacture date because my mechanic (Maz Max in Houston) said that one month earlier and my car would have been an 85. I'm going off my memory and sometimes it fails me.

I seemed to notice what you said is true though Icemark. Most other second gens. I've seen have no hood emblem on it or an after market emblem. That why this is so intriguing to me. This one looks so stock.

remember that "stock" is relative. Noone is doubting that it came from the dealer with that badge, but I don't think you're going to find that it came from Mazda that way, either. Dealers often added on kinda of package items to raise their bottom line profits on cars, the FC was not immune to this treatment. There's lots of cars running around with pop up sunroofs, when only the automatic sliding kind was availble from mazda.. Dealer options, again.

Very true, I had one of those in another car. Hated that freaking sun roof!!! Always leaked for some reason. Ha ha ha!!!

I'm hoping someone will see this and say "Oh yeah, that emblem came from such and such after marketer" or whatever.

It's just funny to me that several of the guys that have been in the rotary community for a long time, go to seven stock, etc, etc, have never seen this emblem. I'm not trying to pick fights. Just looking for info!!!!!

Fumihiko, I think he was talking about the glass pop up sun roofs. You know, the ones that you can get from your run of the mill tint shop and have thrown on any vehicle and it looks fairly stock. They pop up about 3 inches or they will pop off completely if you want the normal sun roof effect.

No, the stock (factory) sunroof is electric, when you hit the button the first time, it pops up and stops. Hit it again, it slides back.

The "dealer option" sunroof (which isn't quite as common on the FCs as it was on the Fbs, from what I understand), is a glass or metal sunroof that will just pop up. Some were removable, so you can tuck them behind a seat or something. They don't slide back at all. These are not going to be powered, either.

edit: David beat me by a minute

waiting for pics !!!! Im very curious to see how it looks. I know its not from the Factory because I have the Victoria British catalog for FB/FC,FD models and there arent any emblems for the hood like you say. So Im 99.99% sure its not from factory but like you said maybe a Dealer's option to raise up the value of the vehicle for there own profit margin or maybe when he bought the car he bought a aftermarket badge/emblem to put on there and forgot about it.

the little "patent pending" part on the bottom gives it away as an aftermarket item???

Sorry if these aren't the greatest pictures. It was dark outside. I was holding the flashlight in one hand and the camera in the other.

Yup, thats it David. Looks a little different than in person. You can't really tell how "tall" it is, not that its extremely tall, but it isn't flat at all.

Whatever it may be, it looks great and adds the most sutle touch to the car. What a lovely RX-7 you have, might I say.
