Hmm... my Power Steering gone?

I think I lost my p/s pump or fluid on my way back home today from mobile...normally when I'm at a stop light, I can turn my wheel pretty easy, it wouldn't budge, like it was frozen... and when I went on the interstate to go back home from mobile - i turn this one corner before the onramp, and it just turned like ****, like it didnt really want to go anywhere until I got up in speed.

Is it cause im low on fluid or the belt is off? If it's the case of low on fluid, how and where do you check to see if it is or isn't? I checked the belt today (assuming it's the one below the a/c belt...) and it looked like it was off the track, but I could be wrong.

Anyone know?

I meant to take pictures on what I'm talking about from the belt, but it was too dark for you to see anyway.

Congratulations! You have completed step one of the remove your PS mod. Next step, remove the pump all together and bridge the lines on the rack.

If you must restore feedback inhibiting device, check the belt in daylight (you were looking at the correct one). If the belt is located properly, the cap on the pump has an integrated dip-stick to check the fuild level. You'll want to check this after bringing the car to normal operating temps. It's not engine oil, but the action of the pump pressurizing the system will heat the fluid and cause it to expand (hopefully just a little). You could also air bubbles trapped in the system somewhere, but that would indicate a leak which should have been noticed as a progressive increase in steering effort.

Well, I have the manual. I just need to find it.

I don't really want to take the P/S pump out just yet. I've been meaning to take the belts off anyway to give me a feel of what it feels like with no ps, but my question is is how can I tell if it's gone?

Actually..where is the dip stick type thing to tell if you're out of fluid? I'll take a picture tomorrow of what I was speaking about on the belt to see if it's in the right place or not.

whoa, why'd half the thread disappear?

No, I haven't gotten it taken care of. I am still stumped and confused. I believe that people have confused me a little bit. Isn't the bottom pully of the two pullys you see is the PS pump? I've been told twice two different things of it... so now i'm lost. I guess I might have took a wrong picture of the PS pump and did the A/C.

I am still also stumped on where the Dipstick thing is to check the fluid....

I've taken the liberty of finding a picture to show you what you should be looking at. I too would like to know where the other half of the thread went!
But the belt and the cap to the dipstick are marked in pink.
