Werid TPS readings, HELP?

Ok, to start, i have an 86 gxl 5-speed.

As part of a tune up, i was adjusting the tps for the first time, and i used a multimiter like they say to on fc3spro.com ( http://fc3s-pro.com/TECH/HOWTO/TPS/tps.html )

the how to says the tps should sweep smoothly from ~1k ohms to ~5k ohms. it says 1k be with the throttle at idle, and ~5k should be at 100%throttle.

Mine reads 1.1 at idle, and 5.7 at WOT, so it's ok, but i get to 5.7k by 40%throttle, and from 40% to 100%, it ALL 5.7k, is it supposed to be that way?

let me know what you think guys, thanks -Matt

There should not be much of a variation. Make sure the TPS has .95 ohms at Idle.

If it runs okay, then i dont see a problem

it runs ok, but the throttle response is really sluggish past half throttle, shouldnt it increase gradually ALL THE WAY from .96 ohms at idle to 5k or so at wid eopen throttle?

The s4 TPS loses contact with the TB linkage at 1/4 throttle. The s5's TPS measures the full sweep, ours doesn't. Your switch sounds normal and I'll probably double check mine one of these days so I can share my results with ya then.

That you have sluggish response beyond half throttle has to do with whats probably a stock motor. (they suck port it!) After half throttle you're really dealing with the engines power band being as airflow is not as greatly increased with more opening of the butterflies as the first half of the movement. The initial pulling sensation comes from the change from not making any power to making power as the butterflies are opened.

normal, though could be on it's last legs. Try to adjust for closer to 1 at idle.

What rpm's are you at when it becomes sluggish?

Lead wires going to the lead plugs, and trail wires going to the trail plugs??? Possible mixup might be your problem.
