High oil pressure

90 n/a rx7 with 180K. Oil sender unit is reading maxed out on the dash. I plan on taking the unit out tomorrow and using a oil pressure gauge according to the service information. Question is that I'm curious to know find out if the excessive smoke on start up could be to the high pressure? or the fact the oil seals are just needing to be replaced? I will update after testing the pressure, thanks.

well in most cases oil smoke on start up when cold is caused by worn oil rings, which is common on a higher milage engine.

Keep in mind that the stock gauges in the cluster are very inaccurate. The gauge could be done, and giving you an improper reading.

Rotaries do burn oil, which is normal. So higher oil pressure could be the cause as it will be injecting higher than normal amounts of oil into the combustion chamber.

You probably already know this but a blueish smoke is a sign of burning oil. Black is running rich, pretty normal for rotaries especially N/A's untill the 5th and 6th ports open. A white smoke will be coolant.
