high idle? yes...i searched.

ok i searched on this topic and didnt find anything to help me...
i just changed the plugs and plug wires(all NGK brand) on my 88 AE. i was very careful not to mix anything up. i just drove it for about 25 miles and noticed that the car was idling at 1500rpm! i tried slowing down in 5th gear to lower the rpm and it did but then it just idled at 1000rpm. then when i got home i let the car sit at idle and it went back up to 1500. after about 10 secs it started to gradually drop back down to 750 or so. is this something i should worry about or am i overreacting?
thanks in advance!

ps- i just got the car last week and the old plugs were in horrible scary shape. does this have something to do w/ the car getting adjusted to new plugs?

pps- i hope this helps my mileage since i was getting about 14-15mpg mixed!
