High Idle on 87tii

I have an 87 tii that has a high idle, it sits at about 2000 cold and 1500 - 1900 warm, it can sit at around 11/1200 but as soon as step on the gas and let it idle again it shoots back up. Just a couple days ago ive been having rough idles every so often hovering up and down from 14 - 1700 rpm. I wouldn't really care normally but i need to get my car air cared and they wont let me even test the car because the idle is to high.

some symptoms ive been have
- it takes at least 2 times to start the car cold
- just recently after i got my water pump replaced, white smoke has been coming out of my exhaust when i start it, after like 5 minutes or when i start to drive it goes away.

if it helps
- air pump is removed
- ac removed
- heater core bypassed ( when i got my water pump replaced)
- running rtek 1.7
- series 5 engine

Check the TPS, throttle cable tension, throttle stop point and adjust the bypass screw on the BAC. The FSM can help you with all of these.

The Rtek disables the accelerated warmup features that help in cold weather, and you're in BC. It's cold.

Again, you're in BC, it's cold and the exhaust will vaporize any water that condensed in/on the exhaust. Sure it never did it before?

Does the exhaust smell sweet? If so get your coolant system pressure tested to check if your coolant seals are leaking on you.

no it doesn't

but anyways i took it into a mechanic for a quick look and it turns out my BAC valve was always open. he replaced the BAC vavle and the connector with a a little more adjustments he was able to get the idle back down to normal levels.

yes they tend to stick. mazda went to drive-by-wire on the Rx-8's and all those idle control systems have been completely eliminated.
