4300 will look more stock, so would be best for avoiding tickets.
But, the whole purpose of headlights is to light up the road. The lower the temperature, the better. So based on that, 3000 would be a good choice.

What kind of housing are you thinking of using? HID's are really only smart to use if you have projectors to go w/ them imo. My car has projectors stock w/ I think 4300-6000 not sure HID's installed by the PO and they are great but if there in a standard housing they either melt it or just spray light everywhere blinding on coming traffic and getting you pulled over. My lights are pointed way too low and I still get drivers flashing high beams at me w/ my projectors. They can't possibly be blinding them since where there pointing I can only see about 30 feet in front of me.

You do realize that most HID housings have a machined base as opposed to a plastic or rubber seal. The reason is that the HID buld needs to be placed in the housing withen a certain area. We're talking thousanths of an inch. You think some piece of **** chinese e-bizzle crap can give you that kind of quality control?
Here's a Hella H9 halogen light assembly, projector none the less
http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=128
$60
Here's the HID version of that same light
http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=1255
$167
There's a VERY good reason why the same ******* assembly is nearly 3x the price.
If you want to look like a rice idiot with yellow or purple lights, get some ******* H4 bulbs that have been painted. This way you only look like an idiot as opposed to acting like an idiot by blinding everyone that heads in your general direction

I know, and regardless of how many times you try to give good information, maybe 1 and ten will actually listen? I get blinded driving my lifted Jeep by ricer civic punks with wrong HID conversions. Every time I pass them I wonder what tread prints would look like acorss thier forehead.

No, but you did say that you wanted yellow lights becuase it looks cool... I'd rather you see a little better than get more attention from some ricer punk in a civic. If you're having problems seeing, get a better H4 housing, Rallylighjs.com is a great source, and get some better bulbs. There's no need to waste money and blind people for looks when in the end you'll be decreasing yours and everyone elses visibility.
Right, you obviously haven't been introduced to need-a-t2's headlight conversion. Better visibility + lower pop-ups = hideously ugly.... ummmmmmmmmmm - NO

You should've PM'ed me, I almost missed this thread
WRONG!!!!! HIDS are only good in HID housings. Any other housing, projector or not, is not going to be able to control the light emmited. You're getting flashed because you're blinding people. Get the right housings, or stop giving horrible advice.

That's ******* HYSTERICAL! You lack basic terminology and you're attempting to give me attitude.
Not to mention my housings are the euro RS4 headlights and ONLY came HID they are euro lights but have cut off's made for the right side of the road not the left so I am getting flashed by dumbass's alright? I understand what your saying about HID housings however but that was the only piece of my advice that was bad....
Look kid, just becuase you're not keen enough to see that I'm right, doesn't make me wrong. It makes you look like an idiot.
Projector housings are made for halogen bulbs. They are designed to create a cutoff beam.
HID housings accomplish the same thing, but they accept HID bulbs.
YOU CANNOT FIT A REAL HID BULB INTO A HOLOGEN HOUSING AND YOU CANNOT FIT A HALOGEN BULB INTO A HID HOUSING
Get YOUR **** strait before you start getting an attitude.
Soon younglin you will learn..... TTT is always right.

RS4 lights are HID projectors TTT. He has a "retrofit" where you take HID projectors and cut a huge hole into the back of our housings so the HID projector will fit in it. Since the Projector, projector lens, and the shield inside the projector that creates the cutoff do the "light control" he really doesn't have a problem.... depending on how far back or forward the projector is inside the housing. If his housing is still chromed and any part of the housing is within the path of the light emitted from the HID projector, he most certainly will have glare and he mentioned he has his projectors pointing down. But you are still right TTT because this is still technically illegal.

Actually the standard A4 headlights that would be true but mine are RS4 lights and are always HID. They are also auto leveling but that portion has not been hooked up which is why they are too low right now. I get flash maybe 2x a month and I hear people saying they get it a lot w/ stock hid's it's because some drivers are just dumb. iPhone's hard to type on. Sorry if my grammer wasn't up to par for you

Yea I know how you feel, some guy on the road flipped out in front of my friend's NB Miata with the factory halogen projectors, that have a decent cutoff for what they are, as he drove on a bumpy section of road. I guess he thought we were just rolling through the airport randomly flashing our high beams for fun or something and just stomped on his brakes and stopped in the middle of the road, got behind us, and followed with his high beams on.

A few things.
1. "YOU CANNOT FIT A REAL HID BULB INTO A HOLOGEN HOUSING AND YOU CANNOT FIT A HALOGEN BULB INTO A HID HOUSING"
Not so sure about that. Although you clearly don't agree they should be used and I totally get where you're coming from, there are plenty of kits out there that provide a H4 base housing to hold an HID bulb.
2. Not a good web address when I cut and pasted your reference. Correction is....?

3. Regardless:
A thought. The primary value in my opinion is HID's to improve Hi Beam lighting. Perhaps the best compromise would be to install HID Driving lights that trigger source off the high beam. Create essentially a 4 light system? Thoughts.

its a link to a special on HID kits.
to access the link remove the . between Rotary and Car and Club. since linking to that site is blocked even though im sending you to a HID kit that is what you would want.

To my knowledge, all HID low beams are projector by design. When someone says, "just stuff a HID bulb into a projector housing," they are 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 999999999999999999% of the time suggesting that you order some illegal rebased HID bulb to put into a halogen lamp.

Yeah I hear ya. Good info.
I liked the dual lights that need-a-t2 offered and it was slightly easier than figuring everything out with a retrofit so I just went that route.
It's a re-based bulb and is illegal anyway you slice it. It's illegal because the lamps cannot properly control the light that is emmited. It blinds people and that is my biggest gripe about them. It blinds me & my eyes are a good 6' off the ground
That's a shame. They had a lot of good information about proper HID conversions. Buying BMW or lexus or whatever OEM HID's and fitting them into other housings. They also had ballasts and harnesses and a bunch of other stuff as well.
Exactely what I'm doing. I have a HID high beam and a the H9 low beam. I already have the ballasts and when other more important cripe is done on my car I'll drop the coin on the Hella 90mm moduale housings and some real DS2 bulbs.
Seriosuly, how dense are you?
Step #1) Buy need-a-t2's dual headlight conversion with the Hella HID housings
Step #2) Bolt Everything on
Step #3) Wire it up
Step #4) Step back and look at your DOT legal HID conversions
Linky no worky even after removing "."
E-Code means Euro Code. Much less obnoxious than ricer HID's but still not legal according to the letter of the law. Hella makes an H4 conversion that is DOT approved. With the H4 lamp you have dozens of different choices of bulbs. As for the difference, I couldn't tell you. Call up Susquehanna, they'll be able to help you out.
