HID headlights

Hi, I would like to put some HID headlights into my 91 fc. And I have been reading around a bit but I would like a reply from people in the forums themselves because it would be more helpful. So, do they make lights specifically for my car or do I have to do like a conversion to fit H4 or any other size. Can I please get help.. thank you.

You should be able to just use an unsealed h4 housing If I am correct.

Now, if you want to add projectors, you might need to do some modifying to the housing so the rear of the retrofitted projector will not hit anything on the car when the headlight is flipping. Shouldn't be terribly hard to do.

On my last ninja, I did a retrofit with morimoto mini projectors and ddm tuning hide (cheap and lifetime warranty).

SakeBombGarage is selling a new version of their kit https://www.rx7club.com/vendor-class...908531/page15/. I have v1, and I'm really happy with the light quality. I've been through stock, crap H4 conversion, H4 HID using Cibie E code housings, and finally the SakeBomb kit (gen 1) before the lighting was up to par for this century.

That being said, tuscanidream's option would save some money for a similar setup. I can't speak to the quality compared to the SBG setup.

Morimoto projectors are right on par with quality oem projectors most people use to retrofit. DDM Tuning hids are cheap, and the only hid company I know to offer a lifetime warranty!

I just can't justify the $800 group buy $950 regular price of the sake bomb kit for something I could easily make myself for half that price! The only part the might need to be modified is the light housing so the rear of the projector doesn't extend out and get snagged when the headlight flips. Maybe. No talk about any warranty either with the sake bomb.

I don't disagree with you. Your DIY option is a great value.

the FC light housings are common so a H4 recepticle type isn't hard to find. i used some generic housing with glass lens and a generic 8k kit for years(still on my car in fact, it's about 6 years old now). cost about $150, and that was when aftermarket HIDs were new and started at well over $100 for just the ballasts, wiring and filaments but i sniped it off ebay from a private seller. now you can walk down to your local ricer shop and buy a kit for $50 and the housings for another $50.

Looks like sbg will now be selling trs.com mini moromotos projectors lights.

I have my own lights i fitted, not difficult. If they are selling trs mini moromotos thats a $300-325 kit , the housings are 25-50 so the rest is "labor"

Word of advice- get the extended length ballast harness it opens up much better mounting options. I dont see it as an option but call them and confirm the short harness is tough to mount with the flip up lights

The lighting from a true projector kit is awesome and cant be compared to slapping hid bulbs in a ebay projector housing and blinding everyone on the road.

Turboiirotary was selling this kit and got some bs from sbg. With the discount they get on the kits the $500 retail price really isnt that bad for those of you who dont want to try it yourself

Why are they so cheap compared to other suppliers? I have to assume there are quality/performance tradeoffs.

Also, anyone know where I could get a good housing to go with the Morimoto Mini projectors? These look to be pretty popular amongst people retrofitting them with HID.

You can't just use any H4 housing to install any HID bulbs. You'll blind the **** out of everybody. ...and get a ticket.

Correct. You need to modify an H4 housing to accept a proper HID projector.

I am looking for one that works well for that purpose (easily modifiable, has sufficient clearance, ...).

I have also read that plastic housings work better than glass for HID because they distort the projection less.

Has anyone successfully used a projector other than the Morimoto Mini D2S 2.0?

I am looking at the Mini D2S 3.0 which has a 3" lens but is 0.7" (18mm) deeper than the D2S 2.0.
