Hey, not too bad for <1 month's work

Especially for a complete and utter noob, I think I'm doing a pretty decent job of taking care of my laundry list. If anyone wants to offer advice on what I've got left, I'm open to ideas.

Just as a note, I'm NOT doing the transmission replacement. RotorSport is.

- new transmission (replacing with a manual)
- new front tires (right front sidewall is cut, which is BAD; somehow the tires seem to have been rotated right to left, and has been that way for a while, in addition to them not freaking matching)
- alignment (due to tires being on the wrong SIDES!!!!!)
- <STRIKE>rear shocks</STRIKE> DONE 1/19/04
- <STRIKE>bearings need to be cleaned</STRIKE> DONE 1/21/04
- <STRIKE>replace radiator thermostat</STRIKE> DONE 1/24/04
- <STRIKE>replace all 2 radiator hoses</STRIKE> DONE 1/24
- <STRIKE>replace all 3 heater hoses</STRIKE> DONE 1/25/04
- replace all 3 fuel injector hoses <B>one replaced 1/25/04</B>
- <STRIKE>flush radiator and engine</STRIKE> DONE 1/25/04
- fluids replaced (oil changed 1/5/04, flushed radiator and engine 1/25/04)
- <STRIKE>wire connections need to be resoldered to fix horn</STRIKE DONE 1/10/04
- <STRIKE>connection from rear washer fluid reservoir isn't working</STRIKE> DONE 1/10/04
- <STRIKE>wiper blades need to be replaced</STRIKE> DONE 1/6/04
- replace oil filter base, o-rings, oil metering pump
- <STRIKE>replace heater hoses for the engine</STRIKE> DONE 1/25/04
- new rubber mounts for the fuel filter
- new cooling system for passenger compartment (recommended a LOGICON from an 89-92 RX-7)
- need a tailpipe for one muffler
- other muffler needs to have seam re-welded (probably will go for some Racing Beat mufflers when I have the $$$)
- water pump is leaking a bit
- catalytic converter needs to be cleaned out or replaced
- driver's side window regulator needs to be replaced
- power steering pump is leaking (can grab one out of an '88, '89, or later just fine)
- power steering rack is leaking
- various minor dents need to be taken out (primarily passenger's side front fender)
- paint job
- possible replacement of front bumper (since it's dented and scratched enough that if I can find a replacement, it'd be better)
**NEW BROKEN BITS**
- driver's side dash needs new demister since Ethan accidentally smashed them off

Sorry about the <STRIKE> bits - they're for the webpage I'm keeping track of these on, and I guess that HTML doesn't work on here. Too lazy to take them out. It's bed time!

It is good to see someone fixing up their FC before modding it.

Hah.. most of us don't have a choice
Well... I got off lucky. My car runs good, but I have a nice list of both things to fix mechanically, and some cosmetic things to fix (to stock mint fashion). Then comes the mods

Modding it? Ack!

Well, my only plans for mods are to get some nicer mufflers. Other than that, well, yeah, converting the tranny to manual, but it NEEDS a new tranny anyway.

As for mods, maybe down the line, when I have more money. I'd LOVE to be able to show her, but don't know how pretty I can make her under the hood.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention that I shopped out the job of getting the bearings repacked. Can't claim doing it myself.

Eeeew!

I AM a girl after all, and can't imagine playing with all of that grease being much fun. I figure it was easily worth the $60.

A 10 dollar box of 50 pairs of latex gloves is convenient in that case.

mechanics gloves rock... I'm not a big fan of getting non-removable car ick on my hands either, hehehe

cortney: A couple things you might think about checking also if you have time is what im in the proccess of doing right now:

1. Fuel Pulse Dampaner (Usually people replace this when they smell gas on shutdown but by that time it could already be too late for some who may not be lucky enough to smell it first... If it gets that far your already border to loseing your car..)
2. Fuel Rail copper gaskets, fuel injector O-rings. (Maybe have the injectors cleaned while its all ripped apart)
3. Replace "The Nest" of vaccum lines which control various things under the intake manafold. (Oil metering vac lines..)
4. Plennum Gasket between upper and lower Intake manafolds, this should be replaced if you are pulling off the manafold since well you have to do this to reach items 1-3.

Its pretty safe to say that alot of reasons for FC's catching fire is because of this Fuel Pulse Dampaner... For me its a matter of knowing it has been replaced, by me, not by someone else, or never replaced and its a tired 15 year old part that could potentially puddle and leak gas down to the exaust/turbo in a split second...

5. Maybe grab a small fire extinguisher (excuse my lack of spelling please...) and throw it in one of your bins... After all that love and care you have put into your car, I myself would be heartbroken to see it burn up for some reason.. Im sure you would too.

Other then that, looks like your moving right along. Then again the logicon is equally important for the sake of being able to see out your fogged up windows in the morning or night. Even more so for how cold its been lately in this area!

Also like others have said, cheap box of mechanics gloves/latex gloves what have you works wonders for keeping your hands clean. Rather then spending the next week scrubbing hands with sponges and whatnot...

Take care.

Super Orange (or whatever it's called) is my friend.

I'll look into the fuel pulse dampener, but I already have plans on replacing the O-rings. And while I've replaced 1 of the fuel injector hoses, I think I'll have RotorSport replace the other 2 when he rebuilds my transmission (just easier that way, since I can't get to them).

Cold? Bah. It's not that cold. The Logicon's not THAT fried. It usually works just fine. Just is either full-on cold or full-on hot. Doesn't understand the subtle variations in temperature that it's supposed to pump out.

Fine fine, ill just shut my mouth. Must me just me and the cold weither... Though your somewhat in /near the valley and im well... closer to the water...

Yeah I need some soap badly, I have the dish soap from the kitchen and thats about it.

I just saw your other post on hose replacement and saw this:
"It got too late and I got too cold to do the whole deal with warming the car up and topping off the fluid. My plan is to go down tomorrow and deal with that."

Just for the record it IS that cold sometimes. hehe.

Ahh well, ill go back to being cold! Also good work on the car so far keep it up and im sure it will be show ready by the time someone holds a meet around these parts.

I was wearing a tank top - what can you expect?

I dunno about it being show ready, but I can have a pipe dream, right?

Yeah I guess that might be a workable excuse. You must have a dream to turn it into a reality.... I hope to have my project looking real nice one day as well. Right now its a dream, but a very detailed one that it is.

I myself prefer sweatshirts and warmer clothes when working in cold weather and im sure NO ONE would like to see me in a tanktop
