Unhappy Help With White Smoke!?

Hey I want to get an 86 rx7 n/a for my first car, found one for a good deal from a neighbor but its been sitting for about 6 months or more and when its started theres lots of white smoke.. is white smoke normal for a car that hasnt been started in a long time? Or does it still mean its the O-Rings?

If yall could respond ASAP i would appreciate it i really wanna buy this car!!

Oil will build up after a long time sitting, and will smoke more if the owner put oil in the spark nut holes like he should have. If it goes away after running a while, and it dosen't do it any more, it should be good to buy, otherwise the oil seal is F**ked.

Watch out, that is a symptom of Blown coolant seals. A common problem in our motors=rebuild.

Oil smoke is BLUE............. a little blue smoke after sitting is nothing to worry about.. a LOT is a problem..

if its white smoke..... smell it! if it smells sweet, its coolant burning and you need to RUN AWAY..... cause its rebuild time

Also.. aske the guy if he put ATF in the engine.. that will cause white smoke.. and a lot of it.

Years, The smell or taste of the white smoke (for mine BTW) is not always sweet. I worked with Antifreese alot and thought that I would recognize it easily. I really never was sold on the coolant seals leaking as much as the oil seal were gone. That theory sold me, when I tore down my motor the coolant seal on the front was really......decayed. (sorry) and the Iron was broken in the same ole place. But the white smoke never smelled sweet.

take off the radiator cap and watch for bubbles while someone cranks over the motor... if you see air coming up then its a bad seal...

It has a lot to do with the AGE of the atifreeze and the type... really old brown nasty antifreeze doesn't smell sweet.. it smells more like a used condom!!!!!

My Schnoze is pretty attuned to the different exhaust smells, growing up around a dragstrip in the 70's, you get exposed... Huagh, HA!.. SNARF.. to a great many wonderful smells. In fact.. I can tell what grade of gasoline ZKeller put in his car that week by the way his exhaust smells!!!!

But, your right, the "Sweet" thing is not always true, but, it always has a similar aftertaste!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, I do know that aftertaste (very distinctive). Maybe my coolant was old. I didn't flush it bcause I was working on other things on the car.

I don't even want to know about the used condom smell and how you know it so well!!!! Ha LMOA Ha!!
