Help with upgrading turbo/clutch please

Hey guys , decided to keep my car ... NOT SELLING IT. time to start the 350whp build ... i need some feedback on the act 6 puck please not from what uve "heard" people who have/had this clutch please let me know how u liked it ? ive heard the life expectancy is only like 20k miles?

and what do u recommed as for a turbo at 350hp? tryin to keep cost reasonable although not cheap. i know everyone says build the hybrid with the larger compressor housing and h-trim wheel ... but ive done much research on that and all i hear is very negative results... please let me know Thanks

If you are set on a 6 puck, you should look at a sprung version this will make it a little easier to drive. Puck clutches are like on/off switches, they are difficult to slip when you want to just ease the clutch out. This can make them tricker to get used to if you do a lot of city driving. Attempting to ease the clutch out at a light you can get a lot of "shuddering".

For you HP goal you could go with the HD or XT, we always recommend over-sizing the clutch to allow for higher power and a little longer life. Life expectancy of a clutch comes down to how hard and how often you drive the car. We run the Z65-XTSS non-puck style clutch in our 450rwhp Vert, it has held up for years and has nice smooth operation on the street, we do not take it to the track however.

^ Very first clutch on the page http://banzai-racing.com/store/86-91...lutch_kit.html

Sideways7- For your desired HP goal I would spend the extra money (if you have it available) and buy the XTSS

the ceramic clutches (6puck) tend to chatter and squeal with daily driving. especially with the un sprung ones. I've got a through a lot.

stick with a full face disc and higher pressure plate.

I have a spec stage 3 (sprung 6 puck). I installed it in Nov and its not nearly as bad as many would have you believe. There is some chattering if I engage abruptly at low speeds... but then again I shouldn't be doing that. Once you get rolling its all good, and the difference is hardly noticeable.

I can't speak on longevity as of yet, but if it makes it 20k that should be fine for my purposes, should be time for some serious upgrades by then.

my unsprung 6 puck wasn't that bad for street, there was some squeal but it wasn't until i got stuck in stop and go traffic on a slight incline that i burnt the faces, after that the chatter began. both chatter and squeal got worse and worse until i lose my mind and threw it in the garbage.
same when for the spung 6 puck, but there wasn't any squeal until i burnt it, then the chatter and squeal started.
lucky for me i decided to go track purpose only with the car and kept the clutch until i wore out. took 1 season and the daily driving to wear it out.
my current sprung 6 puck has been going for 2 years on the track now. both road race and occasional drag strip, and is about half worn.

^ I had an ACT unsprung 6 puck. I agree, the squealing absolutely wears on you over time. It's embarrassing having people ask you what's wrong with your car.

I ran a sprung ACT 4 puck on the street for a while. The engagement and feel were fine...but the noise wasn't cool at all. A street car should have totally silent clutch operation. I ended up going back to a full faced disk and heavy duty pressure plate.
