help tranny dying?
I need help. having trouble with my tran (auto) getting out of 1st, into 2nd. I am wondering if anyone could recommend any quality cleaners/solvents that may dissolve any build-up/sludge that is probably inside. If not, does anyone have any other advice that may save me from doing a tranny-swap/rebuild. I realize that this would be a perfect time to do the 5-speed swap, but I am just a poor college student at the moment and can't afford it. If nothing works I may be selling it as is. (s5, rebuilt motor-50k, exhaust, 17" rims, sound sys., lowering springs, HID lights, o.b.o.)
I don't know of any sludge cleaners for an auto tranny off the top of my head but I bet you could find something to fit the bill at your local autozone. I'd reccomend draining and checking your atf, if its anything other than a nice healthy red you have problems and need to take the car to your local sleezeball tranny shop. The tranny in my 3gen accord was having a similar problem, I later found that a bearing let go, forcing metal shavings into my valve body and ruining it. Just something to bear in mind.
you can try transmatic tranny additive or lucas .the transmatic i've heard is pretty good if you didnt completely trash the internals.but it is a lil harder to locate at your reglr auto parts store.youi can order it online .
Buy a bottle of Lubegard Red or Platinum, or Smartblend Red or Titanium.
Pull the pan, clean it, change the filter, button her up, toss in the bottle of ATF additive, and refill with Dexron-III.
If this doesn't help, you need to test all the electronics related to the transmission. Sloppy and indecisive shifting is likely an electronic issue. Probably a failed solenoid, failed sensor, or corroded wiring. Other things to look for vacuum leaks and test the vacuum modulator.
There is much you can debug with your transmission with the factory service manual, some common sense, and a multi-meter.
