Talking Leaking Clutch Fluid

Hey everyone,

I'm leaking clutch fluid pretty severely. It's not coming from the bleeder valve... or even the driver's side of the engine bay... I can't tell where exactly it's leaking from but it looks like somewhere under the transmission from the puddle. What clutch lines are prone to failing? Should I just replace them all? What else could be leaking if not a clutch line?

Cheers,
iSP33D-for-J3SUS

Check the slave cylinder on the tranny, feel your hand back there to the rubber boot, Thats probabily where its leaking from.

The easiest and best thing to do is replace the line and then both the clutch master and slave cylinders. It's all cheap and if one cylinder is leaking then the other one will start to leak as soon as you replace the bad one...

So, replace both cylinders and the lines?

Any idea how much that runs? I'm quite broke at the moment. :-P

Yes, replace them all. Normally it's about $50 per cylinder, and about $20 per line.

OK, wow, my Haynes manual sucks.

What all do I need besides the master and slave cylinders? How many lines?

Does anyone know where I can buy everything? Online? Cheap?

Your best bet is going to be a local carquest. Those guys always have EVERYTHING! As far as the number of lines and locations are concerned, I dunno.

Never even heard of CarQuest... according to their website there's one just up the road in Arlington... maybe I'll check it out.

Any more information would be good though. I just want to replace every hose / line relating to teh hydraulic clutch system.

All you need to do the replacement are the two cylinders and the one rubber line between them. Just pop the hood and take a look...It will be obvious.

when i saw this i thought it was gonna be the problem i had but it wasnt. if your leaking clutch fluid and it looks like its comming from your driverside fender then its your master cylnder. but since it sounds like its coming from around the transmission then its probly your slave cylnder since it sits on top of your trans. have a friend check where its leaking while pumping your break pedle to see if you can spot it my best guess with your decription would be your slave cylnder tho. but thats just my $.02
