Help, TII barely runs...

Here's the deal, I just bought another 88 RX-7 TII. Its almost stock except for a FCD and cheap downpipe so im guessing it was run hard but it does run (barely). I have to hold the gas peddle to the floor to keep it going. There was a lot of white smoke coming from the LIM/turbo area of the engine. I took the UIM off and found the primary injectors were leaking fuel down onto the turbo. I ordered new insulators and grommets and fixed the fuel leaks but nothing changed. It still barely runs and smoke is still puffing out from somewhere on the turbo. I put cardboard back under the motor and fuel is dripping from the turbo after cranking the motor over.

Why is fuel dripping off the turbo? What could be wrong?

Thanks,
Ryan

sounds like the injectors are stuck...

Does the boost gauge register full boost at all times??? sometimes if the FCD is shot or wired wrong, it will actually send a signal to the ECU that the car is at MAX boost at all times, this has the result of cutting fuel to the rear rotor, and blowing full fuel to the front, even at idle. Take the FCD off and try it again.

Now then.. if that aint it.. its still getting WAY to much fuel... The reason you have to floor it is that its flooding with fuel and its not getting enough air untill you mash the throllte and open up the butterfly valves.

you shure thats fuel and not coolant???

did you check the pulsation damper on the primary fuel rail for leaks???

If eliminating the FCD doesn't work, try swapping out the ECU to one thats good.

If that aint it, tear it down and have the injectors checked

Also,, the LIM and Turbo gasketts may be shot and need replaced

Thanks for the tip on the FCD.

I removed fcd, and also the fuel bleeder bridge between my fuel lines by the oil filter so the fuel system would hold pressure and the pump would stop constantly running. Now I can hear the injectors spraying inside the motor when the key is turned to "ON" so I bet a least one of the injectors is stuck open.

Anyone have any good info on cleaning the injectors?

I made a mistake, its an 87 TII, NOT an 88 so i have low impendence injectors. I have some ideas of how to run cleaners through them but how do I appy power to the low impendence injectors? I remember hearing that 12v would fry them...so how many volts does it take to open low imp. injectors?

I have never cleaned them myself but there are a few companies that do them for about $20 each. I have used RC Eng and they did a great job. Also some diesel shops clean them for cheaper.

I only paid $350 for the car so I'm going to try cleaning them myself first...

Whats a good solvent to run through injectors to clean them?
How many volts does it take for low impendence injectors to open?

It shouldn't have needed a FCD unless i'm wrong. I think that indicates other problems if he needed one. I'd make sure the waste gate is functioning.

That fuel bleeder bridge tells me that he THOUGHT he had a leaky injector when in fact... he had a STUCK injector!!! send 'em out to get 'em cleaned!!!
