Theres a kid at my school with a bac removed completely and the car runs fine on stock ems. I would look at vacuum lines. I am pretty sure thats my old car you have. I would probably get the emissions out and maybe the a/c if you don't want to use it. Just to get the car as simple as possible and then try to figure out the problem.

Idle

Just thought I'd PM you. A lot of posts about idle problems. Not sure when no idle condition, you mean it won't hold an idle even at 800 if you keep you foot on the gas, or the idle is too low. If you feel it's the bac, disconnect the bac air supply hose and plug both the exposed bac tube and the end of the hose coming from the intake. Try it without accesories on. If it still dies, it's not the bac. You can blow through the tube of the bac, with engine off, to see if inner seal is leaking. If air moves past the seal you'll need to remove and clean. I've found that is only a very short term fix. If evrything fine with bac, check all hoses for a vacuum leak. Check tps setting. Last resort adjust the idle up manually to 750.

Bad/no air pump will not cause an idle problem. You can block off the bac and plug the hose to try and see if that makes any difference. As stated before, vacuum hoses and must check tps settings.
